Re: things to polish a les paul with....when you dont have actual polish?

i use my polkadot bandana that i still have from when i was rollin with the East Salt Lake Polkadot Crew to do my polishing work...takes a little more elbow grease than when you have the nice rag and polish but it'll at least clean it up until you get some actual guitar shiner.

i have a good rag, but is there an actual substance i can put on the rag that will shine it up and not hurt the finish at all?

Get some polish!

I won't post the rest.

Meguiars quick detail is really good stuff for polishing guitars.

Got any liquid car polish, like swirl remover? Not car wax but the stuff you hit it with in between waxings. The liquid polish will have a little bit of an abrasive quality but that's OK because it will get the grime off.

Do a small area first, like the side adjacent to where your arm comes in contact with the top of the guitar. Apply the polish, let it dry for a couple of minutes, then buff it off with a clean part of your rag. If you like what you see, do the rest of it in about 4 inch areas until it's all done. Make sure you get all of it off. Even if the car polish looks gone, hit it again.

+1 on getting some guitar polish. There's really no substitute.

what everyday house hold items? I read some post that a guy uses i little bit of soap on a rag to polish his LP, but i dont think i want to risk that

Just a rag. Don't risk finish damage. Then tomorrow, go get some real polish.

....lemon pledge will really work? that's awesome. i'm awesome.

lemon oil, rubbed on lightyly works great as does a mixture of 2 parts water one part white vinegar, works great, cuts the grime and won't hurt the finish.

Spit.

Not kidding. Your own saliva. It's job is to break down fat and protiens. It might noid you out, but it will work to get the guitar clean. After that, a clean t-shirt and some elbow grease will do the rest.

Effective and harmless ( to your guitars finish at least. )
