Think I'll find a better value ukulele than this?

Kid wants a yuke. I'll probably goof on it too. Don't want junk, but at the same time he's 6 and it'll get a bit of abuse. This seems like a good bang for the buck, but thought I'd check here to see if anyone has something to chime in on before I go for it.

I know - I'm probably more excited than he is. He'll have to pry it out of my cold dead hands.

An issue I've read about with cheap ukuleles is poor intonation. If the thing doesn't play in tune, no one is going to want to at it. There was a site I found recently that did a good job comparing ukes in all market levels. Let me see if I can find it.

I think I saw some Guitar Center commercial where they have some uke for $25.

two things that are great about that cheapie:

-Aquila strings: Tonally, these things are way better than standard nylon uke strings.

-Geared tuners: A lot of cheap ukes have "friction pegs" that really, really suck!

Go for it!

If anyone is looking for a great deal on a better uke, call up Hobgoblin USA (google it). We have some great deals on a few models of Ashbury ukes. We chanced into a great buy on several models and are blowing them out for half off, I think. I'm not sure which models, but they are the nicer looking ones with good tuners and Aquila strings. Just call and ask about the Ashbury ukes on sale.
