Thinking about a Delay/Looper

What are the best delay/looper pedals around now?

I've been looking for a bit of space on my guitar sound for a longer while now. My amps don't have reverb and I first thought about getting a reverb pedal but I think I'd prefer a delay more.

I'd also really like a looper in the same housing. It would be very practical for songwriting and I've seen it be very useful on gigs too, like when I've seen Ufomammut play a couple of times.

I had a look on pedals that came out and read the thread here about the TC Electronics Flashback. It looks and sounds really good in videos but I can't get to try one out anywhere. Are there any competitors for it around the same price? Any other thoughts or ideas?

Re: Thinking about a Delay/Looper

I Love the Flashback Delay, though the looper isn't really long enough..The Toneprint option alone is worth the money for this pedal...I only payed $121 for mine through Musician's Friend with coupons..I didn't look at anything else actually.

Re: Thinking about a Delay/Looper

the flashback has 40 seconds right? unless you're planning on playing through a whole song with like 5 sections and then playing a second part over you should be good with that, i mean like a 5-7 chord progression, and then maybe some lead or some more chords, stuff like that, if you want more time than that you're gonna have to get separate delay and looper pedals

Re: Thinking about a Delay/Looper

The Line6 DL4 is a great delay and looper pedal- also check out the Line6 M5 & M9. It really depends on how you want to use loops- I don't use very long ones, and I never have any need to save loops. Digitech makes a Delay/Looper in their Jamman series that is very good too, if you are into really long loop times and storing previous loops.

Re: Thinking about a Delay/Looper

The way I figure I'd use the looper is to take a single chord progression or similar and play something else over it. 40 seconds should be good for that. I've never had one, though, so it's hard to foresee what I'd like to do with one.

I'll check the other recommendations out.

Re: Thinking about a Delay/Looper

I was pleasantly surprised today when I found the Flashback in the local store next to the Digitech Hardware Delay/Looper. I did a bit of an A/B test and went home with the Flashback.

In the end I liked the Flashback better. The Digitech sounded nice but I somehow liked the TC more. The Flashback seemed more versatile and I found it more intuitive to use as well.

I really liked the looper. Some people have complained about the way it works but I got the hang of it the first time I tried. Not so with the Digitech. Apples and oranges, I think.

I really like my Flashback Delay..

Re: Thinking about a Delay/Looper

It's a little steep, but honestly the vox time machine is fricking great. I've been through a lot of pedals selling/trading but i've never noticed the time machine falling short. it's got tap delay, great blend, up to 8 seconds of delay, down to such a short delay that it sounds like surf reverb, a great vintage delay option, even a dry output so you can hear just the delayed part through a different amp. I'm no salesman, but if you can spend $200 on a guitar related product, get this pedal. It's not a MONSTER like the DL-4 either and it's built like a tank instead of plastic sh*t you have to get fixed every 2 years.

edit: it doesn't loop though... sorry lol i didn't read carefully enough. i'd still consider it if i were you.

Re: Thinking about a Delay/Looper

Loving my digitech jam man delay. Imo one of the the best in the range that doesn't include the ability to edit loop tracks independently, which appears to take looping the highest level (something I would like, but those units seem bigger...and...lol...pricey).

It's very quiet, the delays are decent, you can store three separate/user defined delays for recall, and it stores a lot of data.

Re: Thinking about a Delay/Looper

GC and MF have the Duncan deja vu for 80 bucks now which is an insane deal considering that thing goes for four times that normally. It's got amazing features, including a 20 sec looper. I work for GC so I can get one for around $50.

Re: Thinking about a Delay/Looper

I have a TC Flashback, a Jamman Solo, and I'll probably be picking up a Deja Vu here soon.

I've owned other Boss and Digitech digital delays and have used the carbon copy, headrush, memory boys, and memory mans.

For the money and features my favorite DD Delay/Looper to date is the TC.

Really it just depends on what all you are looking from everything.

The Line 6 DL4 is a pretty good option as are the M9/M13.

Do all GCs have it for $80? Also, I still see the original price on the MF website.

It is a national "clearance savings event" and can be found on the GC website or in handout flyers in the store. I found one in Phoenix and there were still a couple left on the shelf. The tweak fuzz for $40 and the power grid distortion for $50 are also good deals.

Yes! I saw it on the GC website. I don't see it on the MF website though.

They're really easy to find used now cuz so many people are selling them and upgrading to the rc30s. Check eBay or GC used.
