Thinking about a Squier Classic Vibe Jazz bass... thoughts?

I would like to try some Quarter Pounds in a Mexican MIM, but I fear that would take away from some of the clank. I do live the QP in my Esquire, though.

I would also like to swap out the bridge, but that is a maybe. I think the stock bridge in a MIM *looks* kinda flimsy and low-end, but I have no idea how solid it is. But that would be further down the line.

The bridge is fine. The pickups are fine. The electronics are fine. There is really nothing to change on the newer MIM Player Series instruments. They are miles better than the previous lineup.

Same. As I said, I put the Hipshot Xtender on mine. That’s about all the mods I’m doing to it. I need to use it live with the band more to get a feel for what pickups I’d put in it down the road but the Fenders are really nice.

I've been hearing better reviews of the Paranormal series than I have the recent Classic Vibes. I had an older Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass that I completely wore out, and I tried to replace it with a similar new Classic Vibe Jaguar. The Classic Vibe was nowhere near as good of a bass. Neck was too thin, hardware felt cheaper, generic pickups that were really bland compared to the older Duncan Designed versions. It was 32 inch scale, but the bridge was moved toward the neck, so it still felt like a full 34" scale. I didn't even see the point in that other than saving them 2 inches of wood, and the shorter scale didn't have the punch that those older models did.

I got myself a 1st generation Chinese Classic Vibe ‘60s Jazzbass a couple of months ago. I’m not a bass expert, but I like it a lot. My buddy is a bass expert, and he likes it a lot. He’s got a really nice P-bass, but whenever he needs a Jazz, he insists to use mine. The CV Jazzbass is a fine instrument. I got it second hand for a bargain. Whenever I install new strings, the value of it almost doubles ;-)

Been on a trade binge/purge, and I wound up with a Squier Paranormal offset Tele. I'm mentioning it because the build quality is really something. Stripped then oil/waxed the neck and you'd think it's a much, much more expensive guitar.

Also wound up with an older MIK Ibanez SR500 bass. Previous owner took out the Barts and preamp, installed the EMG Robert Trujillo J set. They look funny in the soapbar routes, but it plays effortlessly and sounds great. I've owned probably a dozen basses in the last few years, and this one is far and away my favorite. Highly recommend trying out Ibanez.

The used market looks like it is flooded with Classic Vibe series basses right now if you want one. I've seen some pretty low prices on Ebay this week. Some good deals on older Vintage Modified series basses as well. I liked those older ones better.
