Thinking about building a Kramer-ish thing. Where to start?

I really want to build something like a Kramer Baretta style. I don't really want a Floyd Rose though because I don't use the one on my Dinky a whole lot. A Fender style hard tail might be a better option. Definitely want a hockey stick head stock, single humbucker, and one volume knob. Needs to be simple and cheap. I don't really care about the body wood as long as it isn't plywood. I was thinking about picking up a cheap Squire and slapping a Warmoth neck with maple fretboard and a Duncan JB on there and calling it good but I want a rear routed single humbucker body if I can. Opinions? Ideas?

I've made a couple of builds using KNE guitar bodies and I've been pleased with them and they don't run too much for either poplar or alder bodies. You can also occasionally pick up a Warmoth body that is poplar either from them or off Ebay for fairly cheap. Just a thought. Good luck with the build.

Yeah I just passed up a Kramer Focus for that reason. Guy claimed it was an early 80s model, but it had the pointy headstock and I looked under the back cover and I could see all the layers of plywood. Made me sick to my stomach.

Sounds like a Striker, as they can easily be confused with or misrepresented as a Focus. The Foci were never made of plywood.
