thinking about buying an LTD or maybe an ESP Eclipse; opinions wanted

Re: thinking about buying an LTD or maybe an ESP Eclipse; opinions wanted

The ESP Eclipse II is one for my major GASes. At the shop, they had LTD 400 and 1000 series as well, tried them all out. The ESP kicks major ass, really love it. It's a stripped version of a Gibson Les Paul, simplet, cheaper, straightforward, more metal IMO ^^. The 400 are already a good backup but I'd go for the ESP.

Epiphones compare positively with high end LTD's? I ask because I've not seen this, but I don't exactly pick up and play Epiphones much. Are they getting a lot better or something?

maybe a 1000T? thicker body, 22 frets, no belly cut, if you want a more "traditional" feel. oh yeah and i forgot, no abalone!!!!!!!!

Can we retire that abbreviation?

+1

My LTD EC401w is "crafted in Indonesia" - almost certainly in the Cort factory. After upgrading the stock EMG-81/-60 pickups to SD Live Wire Classic IIs, changing the tone control capacitor to a .047uF and tumbling the fingerboard/binding edges, the guitar has nothing for which to apologise on the playing or sound fronts.

The telltale signs of cheepnis are details such as the less than perfect masking where the paint meets the binding.

IMO, the Japan versus Korea/Indonesia, Gibson versus Epiphone comparison is unfair. Most times, I would take an LTD over its nearest Epi equivalent.

Another thing a lot of the LTD Eclipses I have seen are 24 fret, the ESP Eclipses are 22. Bad neck pup mojo.

1st time in a while I've been accused of being a racist, thanks bub. I was just shortening japanese made. Just think of me next time you tell a jew or pollock joke, OK?

True story on the 24 fret Eclipse, mine seems to like bright bridge pickups in the neck. The air-mod A5/A2 seymourizer is about the best I've found, just trying to decide which one I like better.

LTD 400 series are better than Epiphones.

LTD 1000 are of better quality than 400, but damn abalone binding that looks "meh". I'd go for a LTD EC-1000 in of the finishes that doesn't have abalone (like the Vintage Black) or for a real ESP.

24 frets sure are a bonus, but someone who wants a Les Paul doesn't care for modern specs (otherwise he wouldn't want a Les Paul, cause modern LPs don't exist), so the ESP is the real deal. Used if money is a problem !

Gibson Les Pauls are too expensive IMO, ESP Eclipses are the shizz cause they're MUCH more cost-effective.
