Thinking about redoing the pedalboard...

Looking for Real Life
Right now I have a NYC pedalboards... i dunno the size, 18" across or so, and my chain is

Korg Pitch Black--modded crybaby--ibanez AD9--ehx pulsar--ts9--amp

Good sounding chain, I don't really wanna sell any of the pedals cause they're awesome at what they do, but my band's gettin a little more spacy & we're messing with clean/dirty dynamics a little more, so I think some additions and swaps would be nice. For sure I'm keeping the pitch black, the wah (though it sounds a little stuffy at times it works), and MAYBE the pulsar depending on what else I get, I may find something else with a similar enough function to where I don't need it anymore. I like the AD9 but I wish it had slightly longer delay times and cleaner repeats--it tends to get lost in the mix with 2 guitarists. Also with the weber in the deville the ts9 sounds too SRV for me, I think I'd rather get that blackmore-ish sounding treble booster I've always wanted, a la this tone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vfjDpF4j3s

I digress, here's what I'm looking at

1 - A good reverb with lots of different functions that can be used on the fly

2 - A good digital delay, preferably with some other function

3 - A treble booster

4 - some sort of rhythm gain boost

For the reverb I'm thinking the ehx cathedral would be hard to beat, and the savable presets/echo/infinite reverb is too good to pass up.

For the delay I'm not so sure. I'd like to get something smallish since the board isn't huge and the cathedral takes up two spaces by itself, but the only one that's really piqued my interest is the boss RV-3, which yes is actually a reverb pedal, but in addition to the echo function on the cathedral I think it'd be about all the delay I'd need

I don't have much access to treble boosters, I've only tried the keeley one which IMO didn't have enough gain, but based on internet demos the strange master looks awesome, I think I could probably get two and use one for solos/one for rhythm and be happy, but they're kind of expensive. Is this a good choice? Anyone have access to a schematic/parts list? I don't imagine it's too much more complex than a rangemaster, and I got a guy locally who could build it for me.

For the rhythm gain increase I'm not really sure. I guess I'm looking for something like the bc108 hendrix fuzz, but a lighter version, something that'll rock some low end and sound kinda fuzzy but with maybe half the gain & ability to clean up more. Ideas?

Thanks guys

Re: Thinking about redoing the pedalboard...

You need a Memory Man w/ Hazarai for your digital delay. That thing does everything. Loops, delays, modulates, chorus, flange, swells, reverses, ring modulates. You name it, it does it.

Re: Thinking about redoing the pedalboard...

That's too much delay for me, and if I got it I'd have to sacrifice the cathedral for space, which I really don't wanna do.

Re: Thinking about redoing the pedalboard...

Try the Echo Park by Line 6. Excellent delay and it's not nearly as expensive as the Memory Man. It also has a small footprint.

these two clean up very nice and sound great
DIY distortion + (less bass more fuzz than 250)
DIY DOD 250 (more volume boost than +)

Re: Thinking about redoing the pedalboard...

wow the 250 sounds great

both of em, I'm definitely gonna have to check one out. The only thing I'm concerned about is for the crunch pedal I'm not really lookin for a volume boost and this is marketed AS a clean boost pedal, but if it has even as much gain as a ts9 without the big mid boost it should work fine.

Also, l6 looks good, better for delay than the rv-3, but I have to say the chorus/vibrato sounds on it are waaay lame. I'll probably go for the line 6 for the tap tempo alone, but we'll see

So I guess the only things left up to question are the treble booster and if, by chance there's a better reverb pedal for the money than the cathedral, but it's kind of hard to picture...

On the treble booster, I basically found the schematics I wanted, but in my research I found blackmoore used a hornby skewes booster, not a rangemaster, but really the only big consistent difference is that the values on the input/output are switched. Does this make a big enough difference to think about puttin in a switch?

Treble boosters are sort of volume (thus gain) boost pedals when used in front of a semi clean amp...I've tried a BSM and germania 44 - (both range master clones) and the volume boost is really big

listen the RM volume (gain) boost here

250 (LM741 IC) has more gain (and volume and lows and highs) than a TS9 without the boxy sounding TS mid boost
dist + has even more fuzzy gain and more boosted highs

With SC's I prefer the dod....

I use the tape echo sim and the ducking on the Line 6 Echo park. I don't mess with any chorus settings etc. Ducking is the only way to fly IMHO.

Re: Thinking about redoing the pedalboard...

I use the Echo Park for modulation and tap tempo almost exclusively. I have toyed with the other settings, but rarely use them. Sometimes I crank the slapback really high to get a really metallic "transformers" type sound, but that is just for toying around.

It is a truly versatile and standup pedal for the dollar amount though.

I think I may have confused you with the OP, I need a lead boost (cut and volume) AND a gain boost for rhythm tones with no increase in volume. I'm definitely checkin out the DOD for rhythm, it's tiny size makes it all the more perfect, but I need a lead boost too, and I think a treble booster is the way to go for that
