Thinking of swapping out my Governors for Texas Heats in my Buzzbomb

I play technical/ melodic/ blackened/ death metal music. It's kind of hard to generalize, but it falls in that kind of category. Bottom line is it's brootal, dark, and a lot of shedding and harmonies on 7 strings. My amp is a 6505 and it goes into my Earcandy cabs Buzzbomb 212. I have governors in there now and I like them, but I would like less treble, more low-low mid, and less high mid. Would the Texas Heat speakers help?

yes they will beef up the mids, and smooth off the top end but they are not super efficient so i don't know if they are the best choice for your kind of music. I reckon swamp things will be more up your alley.

I had swamps, they are bright and bassy, scooped, which was alright, but they made my cab weigh a ton. I'm also considering the Tonespotter and Man O War, but I may just go back to the swamps. The efficiency thing doesn't bother me to much, my amp is real loud and I seldom turn my volume past 2.5-3.

Just listened to some nice speaker demos on YouTube. I listened to Texas heat vs tonespotter, mow vs governor, and swamp vs th. To my ears the mow and tonespotter had the most treble, so I disregard those. The swamp was considerably brighter compared to the Texas heat, it was louder, but in the upper mid and highs. I just liked the Texas more. And the governor was my second choice. Idk of it's worth buying new speakers, but I really liked the heats from those examples. I'll put them, in a bit. The govs are not bad, I'm just being picky splitting hairs and whatnot.

Sorry, I'm on a phone. It's an HTC:-\

Personally, i love texas heats and i use them in my twin, but im definitely not a metal player. However they do fit the description of what you are after. Maybe you should give em a go if you think Swampies are too scoopy and efficient. I guess i was just making (incorrect) assumptions about what modern metalists go for. There is an advantage in the less efficient texas heat in that you can probably crank your amp up another notch for the same percieved volume.
The other speaker perhaps you should consider, going from what you have said about what you dont liek about governors and swampies is the celestion g12K100. Its meaty as hell but still maintains that celestion/british speaker vibe that works so well with high gain amps. Its all about power in the lower mids with a less strident top end. Its my favourite celestion. I think the eminence equivalent might be the tonker?

Right on. I remember the Krankenstein cabs coming stock with Heats. I don't believe speakers are genre biased. I could see some speakers not working well for metal like alnico magnet drivers, but it all depends on what the person likes. The Texas seems to be quite a versatile speaker that could cover many genres though.

I just keep seeing Texas Heats mentioned in good ways...

Re: Thinking of swapping out my Governors for Texas Heats in my Buzzbomb

Heats might do it. This is my good friends old band, and was recorded with a 5150 through a Krank cab with Texas Heats. Not my style of death metal, but it kinda shows what the speakers can do with the same amp.

Re: Thinking of swapping out my Governors for Texas Heats in my Buzzbomb

I think Eminence V12 Legends would be ideal. They are low mids oriented speaker with very little treble. They are loud and clear and work well for tech death styles. Krank Rev cabs and Vader cabs come loaded with these stock. I have a 4 of them myself.

Very nice. This purchase will have to wait for spring. I really need to become more experienced with the legend series particularly the V12.

Re: Thinking of swapping out my Governors for Texas Heats in my Buzzbomb

You toob vids are pretty poor representations of how any piece of gear sounds and feels, even demos made by good players, cos they never play the way you do, or use the gear, settings or repertoire you do.
I dont think a 20w SS amp at bedroom volumes will give an accurate representation of how any speaker sounds when its working with a proper gigging amp. Especially when its recorded with a distant off axis mic.

Speakers are kinda like pickups in that they are something you need to try for yourself with your own rig, your own hands and your own ears.

Yeah, ^^^ The V12 Legend is a 120w speaker designed for high volume, high wattage playing. A micro amp isn't going to demonstrate that speakers full capability.

Re: Thinking of swapping out my Governors for Texas Heats in my Buzzbomb

All true, thanks. I have some time to think about this. Texas heat, v12, governor. I'll play with my settings too.
