This is beyond stupid

No playing style by anyone for any length of time will create the wear patterns on some of those.

You are right I am sure Willie Nelson sanded his Martin and then gouged a hole in it to look cool. He probably thought if he reliced it he would look like he had more experience on the instrument. Have you ever held a vintage guitar? Have you ever seen one?

I need to post a pic up of my old S540 from 1994..

Just to show that a heavily played old instrument does'nt have to look like a crappy dumpster find if it was loved & cared for....

I mean if that's (relic'ed guitar's) the way you need to get cred as a musician ..sorry, but you are'nt much of a musician..

Maybe it's time Gibson starts rolling out a relic'd ($$$$$) model with a snapped off headstock.. probably sell like hotcakes :laugh2:

While I personally don't care for him or his band's music. He can play...

I don't think he went out and bought that guitar relic'd either..

Nuno is a gun and Extreme's early albums sound pretty damn great, but I don't know when he played that guitar last time, the intonation looks way off :)

My shred/ 'guitar hero's' from the 80's were guy's like Malmsteen, Andy LaRocque, Tommy Vetterli (aka Tommy T Baron), Skolnick, Lars Johansson (Candlemass), Marty Friedman, Ron Jarzombeck (Watchtower) , Jeff Waters (Annihilator), Jon Drenning (Crimson Glory), Tony Fredianelli (Apocrypha) Smith-Murray, Tipton Downing, all the Ozzy/Dio guy's, Shermann/Denner and the like ..so not band's like Extreme, White lion, Bon Jovi, Ratt, or w/e it was that was hip at the time...

I avoided those like the plague...

....just personal taste :D

...or you could just smack some chewing gum across that hole and save yourself the lutheir's fee :lmao:

yes, it'll look way cooler too :bigthumb:

..and the TONE...oh my ..dat tone..

This is relic'd, but it is an exact replica of a specific guitar

I get that. Not something I'd spend my money on personally but being a 'replica' it's legit. The same way an EVH Frankenstrat replica is legit (would'nt buy that either though I'm a massive EVH fan..). But yeah I can see why someone/a fanboy would covet something like that...

As for the aged Frehley Budokan. Kudo's to Gibson for their attention to detail/authenticity :laugh2:

I bought my relic'ed 78 because it was on clearance for $200 less than the non-relic'ed version and had a better neck.

Granted the relic'ing on that is relatively subtle compared to the images in this thread.

He's had "Trigger" since 1969 and has played it for thousands of shows and recordings, right? It's a guitar meant for fingerpicking but he uses a pick and finger picks. That hole, and the rest of it, is genuine wear and tear over the years.

Nuno still plays that same N4 as seen in the posted pic. There's plenty of recent vids of him using it at shows. He has others, but that's been his number 1 for decades.

But those guitarists have personal history with those specific guitars. Similarly, Nile Rodgers has his "Hitmaker," which he's used for decades. Same deal. Not factory-added nonsense, but genuine wear and tear that tells a unique, personal story. Those instruments would sell for a lot of money not because of the play state or intrinsic value but because of their status as memorabilia.

Yep, I agree. Have you seen how SRV treated his number 1? He would slide that thing across the stage. The neck was broken off and fixed several times. That guitar was played hard. No doubt that relic work is from him playing it like he did. There's pics of him with it when it was new. Beautiful sunburst finish.

So if a new player bought this guitar used at a pawn shop and the story and history are not his own is he being a fraud and a poser somehow?
