This is driving me nuts.

25's Nemesis
Hello all.

I've recently upgraded the pickups in my Godin SD. I installed a Cool Rails in the neck, a no-name alnico V single in the middle (5.6k, sounds pretty great), and a Full Shred at the bridge.

All three pickups sound good in their respective positions when played by themselves. When I initially installed them, the middle single was out of phase with both duncans. I flipped the wires on it, and it now sounds as it should when combined with the neck cool rails, but it still sounds out of phase with the full shred. Is it possible for it to be OOP with the FS wired up in both ways? I did buy the FS used and it looks like it's seen better days, but it sounds great on it's own. Could it be that the FS is extra quacky when mixed with a middle single when split AND when played as a full humbucker?

No, it is not possible to reverse the winding respective of the 2 pups and have it remain out of phase. Use your intuition to see if it's just the weird sound of the full shred. Is it relatively the same volume, or is it half volume and something really off? Duncan advertises that the full shred sounds cluckier than usual with another pickup and this has been my experience also.

That was what I was thinking. One position is definitely out of phase. The other is just REALLY quacky and has sort of a cocked wah tone to it.

So position 2 might be strange, but you should be able to get everything in phase by faffing with the wires. Hum cancellation won't be possible unless you split the hums.

Nice. I'll mess with it some more this weekend. I have a brand new SSL-2 to try in the middle, that way I know exactly what's going on, phase-wise.

As far as hum cancellation...it's not a huge concern. I have a good noise gate and I only use the 3&5 positions with split humbuckers and a clean tone.
