This is happening...

Re: This is happening...

The factory setup is in spec according to my handy measuring tools. However, the bridge seems REALLY low compared to my other tune-o-matic equipped guitars. I'd estimate less than a full turn before being bottomed out, especially on the treble side.

I also noticed that the two set screws that lock the Tonepros bridge in place were loose. I managed to snug them up a bit, but it's very difficult to get to them with the bridge that low because of the pickup ring, which is why I'm guessing they weren't tightened from the factory.

:dunno:

Re: This is happening...

Also, this is the neck... Does that look like "3-piece Maple" to you? I think it's Mahogany

Re: This is happening...

I would have thought Mahogany...but where are the other pieces? lol

It's hard to see, but there does appear to be a seam on each side suggesting it is a 3-piece neck. In the photo above, one seam is visible just where the reflection starts.

The prominent grain definitely camouflages it, though, even in person...

Don't know if this helps or hurts, but this is the grain on the back of the neck under flash:

Unless there's a new kind of Maple in town, that's clearly Mahogany

:eek13:

Re: This is happening...

Ah! I see now lol

Well, it certainly looks like Mahogany to me...

Perhaps yours is a prototype where they used Mahogany instead?

I've not seen Maple like that. lol

Re: This is happening...

I wrote Schecter to ask about the discrepancy. We'll see what they say...

You're selling your Dave Mustain Livewires?! I'd think they'd fit that thang like a glove. Your loss, my gain. (Pun intended.) :D

I always want to upgrade and customize my guitars, but I got this one sincerely hoping I wouldn't HAVE to ;)

I plan on giving the Schecter USA pickups a solid chance before I go messing with the internals. That usually starts a never-ending spiral of pickup swaps, ha ha!

Re: This is happening...

Schecter tech support confirmed that these do indeed have a 3-piece Mahogany neck, NOT Maple, and have since updated the specs on their website.

I just got back in town, so I'll work on getting pics up this week :)

Have you sold the Dave Mustaine set? If not, that's what I'd be tempted to slap in.

THANK YOU! Was about to ask the same.. Ive always been curious.. Schecter was known as a custom shop long before their big popularity with the excellent over seas line. In the custom guitars, they used in house pickups. So I was surprised that the imports mostly came with Duncans. I figured it would be more cost effective for them to use in house pups. Now, seems they are shifting to that...

Re: This is happening...

It's a really nice instrument but they should offer a wider selection of finishes. Off-white or creme would look incredible.

Re: This is happening...

My 3-piece mahogany (same color) looks entirely different (Ibanez ARZ800). Maybe I'll post a pic later.
