I saw that video a while back. It really makes you not believe the whole "removing wood kills tone" nonsense. I had a Squier I tried to turn into a double cut, and it actually improved the tone.

Yeah, it's funny, I have about 3 hours worth of EVH demos on my phone and you can easily hear the difference from before and after he cut the massive wedge in his Destroyer.

Yep......sometimes the bit you remove is crucial to it being good. Sometimes the bit you remove was crucial to it being bad.....sometimes it makes no difference audibly.

It was sometime around 1977 that he did the cutaway, which was around the same time they recorded their demos with Gene Simmons. I believe it was between House of Pain and Running with the Devil that he did the mod. He also replaced whatever nut he had on it with a brass nut at around that time as well.
