This is what a Telecaster is supposed to sound like

Re: This is what a Telecaster is supposed to sound like

I saw that video a while back. It really makes you not believe the whole "removing wood kills tone" nonsense. I had a Squier I tried to turn into a double cut, and it actually improved the tone.

The guitar's design affects the sound.

I'm not surprised that you misunderstood the wood reference.......its not 'kills tone', but 'changes tone'. Thats what the argument has always been.

And of course even your experience proves this.

Yeah, it's funny, I have about 3 hours worth of EVH demos on my phone and you can easily hear the difference from before and after he cut the massive wedge in his Destroyer.

Of course, THEN Bloomfield got his Les Paul and added a whole nother chapter to rock'n'roll history.

Yep......sometimes the bit you remove is crucial to it being good. Sometimes the bit you remove was crucial to it being bad.....sometimes it makes no difference audibly.

Actually can you tell me some of the before/after songs - I have always wanted to know.

It was sometime around 1977 that he did the cutaway, which was around the same time they recorded their demos with Gene Simmons. I believe it was between House of Pain and Running with the Devil that he did the mod. He also replaced whatever nut he had on it with a brass nut at around that time as well.
