This made me sad/angry today

Re: This made me sad/angry today

Not trying to Argue, but Wayne built several guitars under "Charvel." I know he built Stryper's guitars which were Pointy headed Charvels.

No argument, just throwing out some Charvel history.

Wayne Charvel gave all rights to use the "Charvel" name on a guitar in 1978. Other than that ill advised stint with Gibson in the '80's (until Grover sued and won), Wayne has never built any guitars using the "Charvel" name to my knowledge.

Frankly, the only success Wayne Charvel has ever had selling guitars is the "Wayne" line, and that has more to do with Michael than Wayne.

Well, he made Oz Fox's guitar from Stryper, and he also did some work for Van Halen but I think that was at his first shop. I believe he worked for Fender in the early 70's and then did his own stuff before the deal with Grover Jackson and then Gibson. But I think he has always been doing some sort of boutique building and repair work since the Fender shop...

Cool history though and his Wayne guitars are phenominal!

Re: This made me sad/angry today

I finally got around to watching up until he starts talking about the neck joint.
Look, I'm gonna be honest. I think bolt on neck guitars are inherently worse that sets or thrus and I don't understand, for the life of me, why bolt ons fetch prices higher than a grand. I know I've read all the info and I realize that tonally they're as good, if not better.
Having said that, I own one that I bought for under $200 that I really love. The neck joint is this.

This guy is bragging about that gigantic archipelago having a slight bevel to it being the second coming of guitar Jesus. My cheap guitar is the equivalent of a sandy beach.

Re: This made me sad/angry today

The neck joint on the Dean in the video looks a lot like my old Jackson DK2R import that I beat around on and cover with Halloween stickers.

Yes, Wayne ran a parts/repair business until Grover bought him out in '78. Complete Charvel guitars did not even exist until 1980, and serialized guitars started about '81-'82. I can't say I am familiar with the guitars of Oz Fox, but anything Oz has with "Charvel" on the headstock was not made by Wayne Charvel.

If you get a chance (or care to), there is a fairly complete Charvel/Jackson history on both the JCF and USA Charvels site. A very interesting read if you are into '80's guitars or Charvel in particular.

Re: This made me sad/angry today

The guitar actually does look pretty cool I have to admit, and he's got a good sound dialed up.

I started scrolling ahead after he got tounge-tied at around :50 in and found some actual playing around the 6 minute mark. I had to LOL when he played some VH-style riffs and went into a Nirvana tune and promptly flubbed the Nirvana tune.

Re: This made me sad/angry today

Aw, man. Apparently everything Dean does is "superior" quality. The dude compares two things that aren't even comparable. Why compare a $7000 VOS Joe Walsh model to a normal USA Dean Thoroughbred, which costs about the same as a Les Paul standard?

I noticed he did the same thing with the Charvel video. He was comparing the USA Dean to the Pro-Mods and then when it was time to talk about price he used the Custom Shop Charvels as a reference point.

It just sounds like the dude has a massive boner for Dean guitars.

I mean, that in itself isn't a bad thing. One man's trash is another man's treasure and whatnot. Although I think a lot of people tend to confuse "different" with "better"

I can answer all his questions. I just won't. He makes my balls itch.

Oz Fox was in a Christian band called Stryper--pointy head Charvel--so I don't know how that line up with your history but I know Wayne made guitars for Oz Fox/Stryper (now I think they use Ibanez guitars, but still have the black and yellow stripes.)

My dad sold Waynes for awhile and talked to Wayne Charvel several times about his history/life story. The sites you mentioned back up what Wayne told my father, only thing is the Oz Fox part, but anywho, if you want to play a San Dimas guitar that is awesome, then buy a Wayne and you will get one of the best super strats out there. :)
