This my friends is why you don't ship USPS!

I've always had issues with USPS. One thing that sucks is that USPS does not insure priority mail, so if it gets lost or damage, you're S.O.L.

It's not automatically insured, but you can purchase insurance when you ship the package. It costs $1.30 per $50 of insurance, if I recall. Everytime I ship Priority Mail, the post office worker always asks if I want insurance.

True, dat.

The whole shipping sh!t is why I think it's much better to deal with people in person. But when there's no option I guess we're all screwed and have to turn to those stupid f*cking companies who wreck your gear as it goes through their mail system.

I always thought that was a load of bunk. Especially when UPS tries everything they possibly can short of a court case in order to pay for an insured package that was delivered broken. Insurance is absolutely necessary.

I'm not suggesting people not buy insurance. I'm just saying it should be part of the deal. I am paying them to deliver a package in good condition. If they don't, they should pay for it. It's just good business. If it arrives damaged, they haven't held up their end of the deal.

When they ask me if I want insurance, I always feel like they're asking me for more money to do the job they've already agreed to do. If they did their job, I wouldn't need insurance. Is anybody with me on this?

i had a terrible time with the usps and i will not use them to ship anything breakable. somehow they managed to not only rip the box open but left it at my house out in the rain. when i talked to the post master all he basically said was tuff. he doesn't work for the usps anymore. but none the less i will not ship with them because i have had so many problems

I definitely agree with you. It's crazy that we should have to pay extra for them to do their job right. :saeek:

I guess these companies feel that individuals may try to sell items that were broken to begin with and blame them for it so that they have to foot the bill. Still, abuse like what happened today is just unacceptable. They should be awefully glad that my items were still in perfect condition or they would have seen a side of Chris that just ain't too pretty (I'm Italian and while it takes a lot to tick me off, if you do, watch out :laugh2: )

It's also another reason I don't deal with foreign countries. If a box can't even be shipped statewide in one piece, I'm definitely not taking a chance with 2 shipping companies, customs, dishonest delivery guys etc.

Sadly, that can happen with any shipping company. My drummer used to work for UPS and has told me horror stories! Hint. The more you write Fragile on your packages, the less gentle they are with them. He said he saw guys kick and drop boxes with Fragile written all over them.

I can also vouch for this sort of behaviour form some delivery drivers.

I work in the Goods Inwards Department of a small warehouse and I deal with about 20+ Couriers everyday. Some do their job correctly and look after the parcels well. While others don't care and throw parcels around the truck, kick them about and slide them off the truck onto the floor etc no matter how many 'Fragile' stickers are on the box.

It's definitely opened my eyes asto what courier's I'd use myself in the future :)

Although I was not happy with the incompetence I had to deal with at the Post Office, I was happy with their shipment times. I recently shipped a Strat to Ireland from Chicago and it got there inside of 3 days!! That is less time that it usually takes for me to mail a postcard to relatives in Boston! I did expect it to be thrown off of a cliff at some point, so I packed the heck out of it.

Interesting. USPS has NEVER caused problems with me, and it´s always been cheapest as well.

UPS and FedEx on the other hand, let´s just say they´ve both caused their fair share of headaches.....:smack:

+1!!!

Whoa!

Did they kick it of the roof of the warehouse or something?

Shouldnt matter, I am in shipping by trade and I can say if something is packaged properly, you almost do anything to it with out damaging the contents. The packages I have shipped, I would drop them off the roof and not think twice. I can honsetly say that about 99% of freight claims are because the item was not packaged correctly.

I am a delivery driver and I can say that if it is dropped or mishandled by the driver once, it is dropped or mishandled by the dock workers 10 times that.

totally agreed. however, with the nimrods (humans) that they have to employ for a wage, that really is too much, they cant afford to offer insurance with every package. granted, they should, but this isnt a perfect world, and people try to do the worst they can at their jobs, especially in the service industry.

Get this, of the 3 years I spent in Germany, I would come home about every 6 months or so to visit family. I would always ship USPS Priority Insured. NEVER a scratch!!! Well, on the FINAL trip home to the states ( I was being transferred to Georgia), I didnt have the cash to pay insurance, only the shipping. I locked my SKB cases and prayed for them. 3 separate uninsured cases going to the same place. Well, they got separated by about a week, and ALL 3 cases suffered severe damage. Fortunately, the SKB's did their job, but they had to replaced because they now offered less protection than a gig bag! I was FURIOUS and voiced my emotions in a calm and firm articulate fashion! The lady said I shoulda got insurance!!!! In other words, Tony Soprano said "Hey, fuhgetaboudit!" $300 dollars worth of cases down the drain!!!! I shoulda paid the extortion. The woulda arrived on time and in pristine condition!!!!!
