This room

Is it just me that looks on this room as somewhere different? Like a sort of refuge where we leave all the silly personalities at the door and don gowns and slippers. A sort of friendly place where we let our guard down and people see the real person rather than the forum 'persona'?

We all play the game in the other room, but we don't do it here.

This is by far my favourite room. This is the only room that really matters to me.
This is the only room I'd miss if the forum closed (or I got banned).

I think it's a shame that so many of the other guys don't come in here and play. Whether they are good, average or beginner it really doesn't matter.

I'm always surprised at the talent in here, yet don't feel self concious in posting something that's little more than a doodle, the equivalent of a sketch in drawing. I know the people in here will see the idea and ignore the faults.

It's a great place to be.

It's a great big Internet - yet this one spot is my favourite part of it.

Do any of you guys feel the same?

Re: This room

I agree. I'm blown away by some of the talent I hear here. Unfortunately, I'm dial-up so I don't get to listen to much from here, because it takes so dang long to download anything. I would post more, but that's why I don't. Still I sometimes download at work in the morning (DSL) before I officially "start" the day, and I'll keep that tune or clip on loop for a good part of the day. It takes that long to actually listen to the cut, because I get constantly interrupted by the phone and other coworkers. I think it's because I'm so fun to talk to, or that I'm so good looking. Anyway, back on earth... I looped WFD's tune for about 2 days because it took that long to finally be able to listen to it without scaring half the office.

Re: This room

I can't help but admire the skills some people here have. Even those who may not have the same "chops" as others still post music that is very good and interesting and I find what they have is just as inspiring. I would love to one day get peoples opinions on some music I have but I would first have to get a new computer. I'm on the computer at work right now, but my home PC has really been acting up lately. If I do get a new PC I would definatley be seeking advice on what tools I would need for recording and how to post songs.

Re: This room

i really like posting clips hear and see what people think of MY music, i like critism and i dont mind giving my opinion on others stuff. one complaint is that it seems like if you post nething heavier than classic rock people tend to shy away from listening to it..im somtimes tempted to call things "blues clip" just to get some other people to respond lol but thats just me

Re: This room

I would post some music, but I don't have the necessary equipment, nor the confidence. And it is true that there's great talent in this forum. I'm really paying to the new generation of guitarists, the youth of music, because now, with the internet and quick communication on the internet, they are able to learn much quicker than the previous generation. It'll be interesting to see where they go.

Re: This room

Not much more than the rest of us:laugh2:
Fast learning is not always good learning musicwise.
The electric guitar has evolved from being a scorned solid plank not long ago, into something serious used in good compesitions.
But it is still an instrument for all to pick up, so it is a very broad instrument to take up, that is the still the beauty of it, I do not hope that it will become too much of an elite instrument to play, I am not big on shred, allthough I like fast tech myself, I am not a shredder, for me the pinnacles are Dann Huff, Satriani, Johnson, Beck, Landau, Hendrix those who takes it up a step or two musicwise, the tonal pallete is wonderfully wide.
Not much sense in going amok in tech playing, will just bore people out of their skulls, it is way harder and perhaps also more rewarding to create something to remember.
But that is just me.
:headbang:;)

Re: This room

I totally agree that this room is special... this is by far my favorite room also. I've not been able to communicate my playing much in recent years, and I've been extremly stimulated by positive comments I received from fellow players in this room. I've always been playing and writing bits and pieces... not always the greatest thing, but it's such a kick to be able to share it with other players. I would definitely be very sad if this room came to an end.

I'm currently trying to put together a piece to show my new guitar (Ibanez SZ720 with SH-5) and amp (Tech 21), but my 11 month-old girl doesn't leave me much time these days :) I'll try to come up with something adequate in the next few days.

Are you sure about that . . . I just searched through this "room" and didn't see any post by you. Give me a link . . . I'll listen to it. ;)

Re: This room

Hmm, i see what you mean Lee, people dont seem to have the stupid arguments about nothing in here. I should really start posting clips but they really wouldnt sound any good compared to suma u guys! Ok, when i get back from holiday and have played loads for a few weeks, i will begin to post clips. My promise to you guys (and gals)!

Re: This room

It's not a competion mate. You've probaby not been playing overly long so don't expect to compete with anyone.

My advice is to keep it simple and play within your capabilites. A three note solo witha few nice chords is fine.

You've got a lot of experienced players in here that could become a free teacher, always available. Don't miss the opportunity, and remember, constructive criticism is the fastest way to get good.

So give it a go - but keep it simple.

Have a nice holiday (lucky brat).

Re: This room

Man do not worry, nobody is going to slack anyone here, that really serves no purpose.
To play is a thing for life if you stick to it, music really is some of those things that has very few limits.

Cheers guys. Actually i have been playing 5 YEARS (shocking), i have had lessons all that time BUT i was really stupid when young and didnt focus on it! It was ona the things i regret most!! Its only really been the last year when i have stepped up my playing, making it a key priority. And as i have mentioned before i plan to work very hard on guitar this summer! And also musically im a lame ass! So at the end of this summer im doing some music theory which i hope will benefit my playing! Yeah i hope i learn stuff from you ppl! Cheers for reading my banter!

As in R2D2?

How's C3PO?

Actually, you're closer than you think. My name is a slight play on that theme. One of my AOL screen names is ArtieD2. :laugh2:

Anyway, one of the techniques, if you can call it that, that I use is to not try and second guess what I think my listeners will like, but instead, play what I like to hear. If I like it, somewhere, someplace, there will be someone with similiar tastes that will like it too.

Thats a philosophy taken from an old Steven Speilberg quote . . .

" . . . I make the kind of movies that I want to see."

This is also my story too!

I've been playing about 7 years (give or take), but have only taken my playing seriously the last 3 years since I did music at college and got into my Sound Engineering.

I've always had lessons, but lack alot of confidence as a player, especially when it comes to lead playing. I always concentrated on rhythm playing (which I enjoy and am good at) but was never much good at the lead stuff :)

I plan to start posting more clips on here, but 1st I need to get my confidence up :)

I agree with Lee, this is a great room without alot of the crap that the other rooms seem to have :)
