Those Hello Kitty Strats

I was having a look at one of those new Hello Kitty Squier Strats in the shop window today.

I know it's crazy, but I couldn't help but feel tempted.

They're cheap, under £200 (here in the uk). But the real clincher is that they're already set up EVH style with a single bridge humbucker and a single volume pot.

I know, I know, it's pink, it's hello kitty, and it's a squier. Enough to get me killed in some countries. But has anyone tried one of these? Are they any good?

When I Duncanised my old squier (first guitar), it became my main guitar, I hardly even touch my Epiphone SG or Flying V anymore.

Thoughts? Am I being silly?

Oh, I've thought about getting one, too, just for the laughs I'd get taking it out on stage! Don't know how they play, but I can't play anything off the rack anyway. I'm sure with a neck adjustment and a set of frets they'd be perfectly acceptable.

Re: Those Hello Kitty Strats

I've played alot of squier's new stuff and it's mostly un-bareable. Stuff from about 10 years ago is pretty damn good but they've gone down the drain now.

I'd suggest saving up and going warmoth if you want an EVH style strat. Or get an MiM fat strat and frankenstrat it.

Keep walking down the row till you hit the American Strats, Deluxes, and Custom Shops. That's where the guitar players are at. LOL

fixed!

Re: Those Hello Kitty Strats

the Hello Kitty strat is visually attractive, tone-wise (default humbucker), it's kinda too midrange inclined. do keep in mind that it's actually an Affinity model after a make-over.

Re: Those Hello Kitty Strats

I've played three or four and I think we're going to get a set--the guitars come in black and pink. There's also a Badtz-Maru bass; and HK gigbags, straps, picks, et cetera.

I didn't think the guitars were too bad--I've certainly played worse for more money!

And a mint set of these in 20 years will be very collectible.

But, I want to take one out to play!

All I can say is, if I went to a aggressive screaming death metal show and all of a sudden someone pulled out a hello kitty guitar, I'd be thinking "DAMN that guy MUST be able to play . . . he has some huge balls bringing that thing out!"

What if it was a fuzzy guitar? Same thing? :chairfall

Only if it was an inappropriate colour . . . hot pink, with contrasting hearts/polkadots.

What am I, made of money? ;)

I don't know man, it looks like a lot of fun. Blasting out Angel of Death on a pink hello kitty strat would be pretty darn cool. I should probably put the money aside for a custom warmoth or something, i'll love myself more in the long run.

:laugh2: pwned!

Anyway, pinto79 bought one recently. I'm sure if you PM him he'd be happy to share his thoughts.

I could just reply here too...

I love mine. It screams and wails and all that.

I have a DiMarzio Super 3 on it's way for it... :D

The coolest thing I discovered is that the pup is mounted directly to the body, not the guard. I've tuned mine to "D" so I can play "Sad But True" on it. :)

When I change the pup I'm going to change the pot too, I have a couple of CTS ones around.

Kitty says do it!

That set won't be complete unless you get the "Emily the Strange" SG to go with it. :D

Re: Those Hello Kitty Strats

just put a regular guard on the kitty and it wont' be AS bad. i do kinda like the pink neck dots though LOL.

Nothing screams "I'm a perv" louder than an anime chick in a bikini :laugh2: Chalk that up on the list of "uncomfortable things to play with around grandma..."

I'd LOVE the hello kitty guitar though. Might buy one for my niece.

I never said I wasn't a perv, nor that I had a problem with it :D

Alright, nothing screams "I'm a perv" louder than having a screenname like "danglybanger" and a mysterious David Hasselhoff obsession :laugh2:

And it wasn't so much a "crisis" rather than me trying slightly harder not to alienate people. Did it work?
