Those of you w/ the Eleven Rack....

How are you digging it after the honeymoon period? I've got a lot of amps, but there's just some days I can't find the tones I'm hearing in my head. I can't afford an Axe FX and I'm not really a fan of the Line 6 stuff, so that pretty much leaves the Avid Eleven Rack. I'm pretty impressed by the demo's I've seen and heard. Just looking for some real world user's thoughts. I know it comes w/ Pro Tools and all that jazz, and I'll probably use it as some point, but for now I'm just looking for something that sounds good and has a good array of tones available.

The plan, as of now is, running the Eleven rack into a SS power amp and through some playback monitors. I've got a real nice set of Klipsch RB-85? reference series 8" 2 way bookshelf speakers that are sitting idle and would probably work great for this application.

Re: Those of you w/ the Eleven Rack....

I am saving up for the axefxIII and just using my tech 21 character series pedal and IR impulse recabinet. pretty happy with that. axefx finally figured out how to make fuzz pedal plausible sounds, so I am hoping that technology gets better. Fuzz pedal sounds:

Re: Those of you w/ the Eleven Rack....

No doubt the Axe FX units are pretty dam good. I just refuse to lay down that kind of cash for something that I'll only use here and there. $700 is bad enough lol!

Also for those of you that are familiar with this stuff, I posted a question about source switching in the Tips & Clips forum. I'd like to use the power amp "monitors" for audio playback from other devices as well. I'm just not sure on how to do it!

ok, if your heart is set on eleven rack or sticking with what you got, I suggest the elevenrack forum and asking users Jolly and Stratman

but really, I heard the demos of it on youtube and I like my rig better. With modelers I am only interested in recordings, and so listening to recordings is enough for me to determine the best recording gear for myself :) Before you put down the $$$, you may want to try demoing free software like the Peavey Revalver, or using free software that rocks, like Lepoulin and some IR impulses.

Re: Those of you w/ the Eleven Rack....

I really dig the 11rack. I use it for recording mostly not live work though. The more I work with it the better I like it, which is a good sign I'd say.

Re: Those of you w/ the Eleven Rack....

I hate the fact that it's tied to Pro Tools and you have to have a third party editor if you don't want to use PT. (I hate PT with a passion.) I also hate the fact that Avid makes it, as they tend to completely stop supporting hardware when they come out with something new.

Really?

There's also this:

Which means that they can just stop supporting it whenever they feel like it. You can only keep an old copy of Windows on your computer for so long... or you'd have to keep an old computer to interface with it. Sure, you can just use the front panel, but who wants to do that?

Line 6 does the same thing w/ their hardware. I've seen many complaints of people losing plug ins that they paid for because L6 stopped supporting it. IMO, all this modeling stuff is disposable. I'm not concerned w/ it's recording abilities. I want it for "live" use in my play room for when my Mesa's can't do what I want to hear on those rare occasions. Fact of the matter is, if I buy one, it may never get hooked up to a computer...EVER! So really, none of the complaints anyone has come up with about this piece of gear isn't really a concern of mine. Hell I might as well buy it used. I could give 2 craps about the pro tools junk.

I want one to rock the feck out on, not be some super studio genius.

The only units Line 6 don't support anymore are the original POD and Bass POD, which are over 10 years old. You can still download the editor for the POD 2.0 and everything after that, which still works on current operating systems.

If you think you can get by without hooking a modeler up to a computer to back up presets and perform firmware updates, that's on you.

Re: Those of you w/ the Eleven Rack....

Dam! Why the snarky remarks bro? You don't like the unit or the company that makes it. That's awesome, nobody said you had to, but talking down to me is uncalled for.

I'm not, I'm giving you an honest warning. I used to sell Avid hardware and software, and have lots of experience with modelers.

Re: Those of you w/ the Eleven Rack....

I thought my old line 6 toneport was good for the time period I recorded with it. the interface died, and they did not let me keep the plugin! was not happy about loosing my plugin. so no more line 6 for me!!!

Re: Those of you w/ the Eleven Rack....

I love mine. I do all of the editing from the front panel. I have mine running in stereo through two 4x12's that are about ten feet apart. It sounds HUGE!! Everybody that's come over my house and played through it is completely blown away.

Thanks Jolly. That was more or less what I'm looking for in feedback. I know you know you're way around gear. Probably look for a used unit since I don't need the Pro Tools stuff.

From your comments, it becomes obvious that you bear a grudge against Avid which in turn affects your opinion.

So uncalled for and those comments distract from providing a honest post!

I use a lot of different gear and have owned Line 6 and AxeFX, but use my Eleven Rack because it can give the tone and sound that I want to dial-in quickly.

What did I say that was dishonest? All I said was that I hated it, and why I did.

They arent looking for honesty they are looking for fanboisim your a dissenting opinion thats why they take exception to it

That's pure assumption on your part. I do want honest, real world reviews of the EQUIPMENT. I could give 2 chits about the software, prepackaged or other otherwise. I didn't read anywhere in Dominus' posts that he had first hand experience with the unit. He said he use to sell Avid software and has experience with "modelers". Well again, I have no use for the software and modelers has become a sweeping generalization. As they go from complete garbage to plausible in some niche needs like mine.
