Those who replaced a speaker in a HRD

Re: Those who replaced a speaker in a HRD

Ive got a nice marshall sitting next to my fender amps. There is unfortunately no way you can get a Marshall tone from a fender amp (despite what various "marshall in a box" pedal manufacturers say). But you can get some killer crunch tones nonetheless. Of course no marshall can give you the sweet clean tones of fenders either.
Go for a texas heat. Beefy, plenty of bottom and a sweet top. Vintagey, but with balls. You won't be sorry.

Texas heat it is. I'm not going for Marshall sound with the fender. Just versatility. Thanks for all your help. So much detailed info.

Curious...did you install that Texas Heat? How do you like it?

I've got 2 HRDs and they have seen Reverend Alltones 1250s, Celestion G12 Blue Alnicos, G12T-75s, Vintage 30s, Greenbacks, Eminence Red Fangs, Eminence Legend 122s, Eminence Private Jacks and a few others I have forgotten.

After years of swapping and experimenting, I stuck with an Eminence Red Fang alnico in an HRD. The speaker takes everything the amp can throw at - spikey highs, boomy bass, etc. - and turns it all into a nice, 3D, Fender chime machine.

The Private Jack also worked well, as did the Celestion G12M-25 Greenback. Both are more affordable options, but go big alnico if you can.
