Thought I'd help a friend out with her song.. It sounds very Deep Purple.

Re: Thought I'd help a friend out with her song.. It sounds very Deep Purple.

The recording gets the general idea across.

POSITIVES
1) Liana has an interesting vocal quality in both lead and backing roles.
2) It is refreshing to hear you collaborating on original material rather than sleepwalking through cover versions.

NEGATIVES
1) Not many songwriters could get away with over five minutes on one chord progression. (Lou, Iggy, Van Morrison.)
2) When you two develop the song, some form of time-keeping device would help. Even the Auto Accompanient section of a home keyboard would be better than nothing.

Thanks for the positives. We're thinking of adding Hammond, Bass and Drum parts to the song too. This song was done with my 1960's parlour size acoustic guitar and my 1992 Magnum Strat copy plugged straight into the amp. Now I just have to get my Hammond to work..

Thanks for the thanks.

Obviously, I was not actually expecting thanks for the negatives but the points are valid. I have attempted to put them as kindly as possible without sounding dismissive.

The recording shows potential but, probably, not in the way that you imagine.

If you wish to discuss your music in a professional manner, you will have to be prepared to deal with negative observations and opinions. Artiste management worth its salt would not hesitate to tell you to your face when anything is sub-standard.

UPDATE - Two weeks later and no further comments? :scratchch

IMO, the title of this thread is all wrong. The featured Liana is helping Nathan with his song and NOT the other way around.

The lyric and music content resemble things that the OP might want to express. I struggle to imagine many female lyricists who would choose to describe themselves as "dog" - not even for shock value in our present day "politically correct" times. I see Liana as the one facilitating the completion of the performance.
