Thoughts and comments on the Vox Joe Satriani Satchurator?

Re: Thoughts and comments on the Vox Joe Satriani Satchurator?

I haven't played it yet... it sounded cool in the demos, though.

If it resembles the distortion and overdrive the JSX produces in any respect it ought to be pretty nice.

Should be pretty close to the modded DS1. Seeing as DS-1 into Marshall is Satch's tone, I'd think the Saturator would be a "different flavor" of DS1 style grit.

No personal experience though.

see I don't know too much about Satch's gear but doesn't he play a peavey? Is the peavey just a marshall copy? Idk it sounds different to my ears but I would much rather compare the two at a guitar store in person.

The videos don't sound like it. I think it has its own flavor sounding a lot like Satriani. This is one pedal I would like to get. I'll have to decide between getting that and the OD820 I've been wanting.

Had a listen to the proguitarshopdemo. I'm not into it. To be fair, I've never been a fan of Joe's sound.

Vox do make a pedal I quite like: the British Bulldog overdrive.

Personally I think they dialed in a tone that was too dark and woofy. FWIW some characteristics of the tone reminded me of my Keeley modded DS-1.

Does Satch use a modded DS-1, or stock?
I don't know why anyone would want a pedal other than the DS-1 if they want to sound like Satch.
I'm not saying anyone in this thread wants that, I just mean I don't see the point of a signature pedal, when his tone is a cheap DS-1 into an amp.

He recently went with the Peavey signature line, but for years his amps were Marshalls. And the DS-1's were generally stock. However, like all artists he wants to improve and push the envelope. He described the Satchurator as all the things he likes about distortion pedals, just more.

his early days up into the 90's was a stock DS1... he had a Keely modded one for a while a few years ago i heard...

The VOX is a money deal but still i want it

Re: Thoughts and comments on the Vox Joe Satriani Satchurator?

I just listened to the demo. I have a keeley ds-1, the satch pedal seems to have more low end and a more meaty sound altogether. sound ok to me. I just think signature pedals are not really cool, seeing one on someone's pedal board just screams 'fanboy' to me. and is t me or does the guy who goes those proguitarshop demos get the thinnest sound ever out of that les paul?

Re: Thoughts and comments on the Vox Joe Satriani Satchurator?

I saw Satriani here in Portland a few months ago at a Guitar Center Clinic. He only used the clean channel of his JSX amp, and used a prototype of the Satchurator for his distorted tone.

Great clinic.

I think it is an overdrive....and it is red...

:friday: :laugh2:

I shall reserve final judgement on the pedal until I try one.

Re: Thoughts and comments on the Vox Joe Satriani Satchurator?

if it has some nice low end to it i just may have to own one.....

Re: Thoughts and comments on the Vox Joe Satriani Satchurator?

What I dont get is why does Joe have a high gain 3 channel signature amp, but then comes out with a distortion pedal? Does he even use all 3 channels or still runs boxes into the clean channel like his older Marshall rig? Kind of bugs me.

Re: Thoughts and comments on the Vox Joe Satriani Satchurator?

To have options and more tonal differences to draw on....
When I use a channel switcher amp(which is seldom at best..hehe) I also get one or two drives in front of it....I never use them on the dirty channels though....I do not like that much, but on the clean....

I don't know, to be honest with you. The actual amps that are the brains of the rig are JSX's offstage near his guitar tech... as i understand it any of the amp heads you might see onstage are spares that are on standby but not being used. At least that's how I'm used to him running things.

On the first tour where he used the JSX's he had a DS1 on his board as well as a Barber Burn Unit. I'm sure the pics are still out there somewhere.
