hi guys ive come across this hand built amp. its from the toronto area chassis and cab built by tony texiera of tex amps and the assembly and wiring done by guru martin newall.

its got a weber ferromax 12f150 speaker (not familiar with weber, apparently a chicago jensen c12n replacement)

the trem circuit is footswitchable.

12ax7s for preamp and tremolo 2 el84 power and 1 ez81 rectifier.

what are your thoughts? what kind of value would something like this have?

Looks like a Trinity kit? Nothing wrong with that. I can't tell what speaker that is. IIRC, trinity iron is heyboer and those are good.

Used, $800-900? Just a complete wild a$$ guess. Do an eBay search on marshall 18watters or look on the The Gear Page to get a value.

Wow! Very nice! I wonder why something hand-built would have a Marshall logo on it? If it was from a kit, I still don't get it being passed off as a Marshall from the audience point of view. How does it sound? I love single channel amps.

I think there's a fair amount of this. The End user just buys a Marshall logo and glues it on. I doubt seriously it was the guy that wired it up.

Re: Thoughts? handwired single channel 1974x

it is not a trinity amp or kit. im told chassis and cab built by tony texiera of tex amps and the assembly and wiring done by martin newall.

not sure on the logo. a local amp tech got it new, im getting it off his friend who has used it lightly since 2010.

how hard would it be to reposition that logo?

the speaker wire is long because it is run with an attenuator, (weber 25w) which will be included in the trade deal.

trading my 81 greco strat potentially.

i got some sound clips today and i gotta say she sounds damn good.

looking for something to give me kossoff and late 60s early 70s bit blues rock sounds. thinking this might be the ticket!

Re: Thoughts? handwired single channel 1974x

What are they asking for it? It's good neat work. Someone looks like they knew what they were doing. And, I'm not knocking the trinity stuff at all. They clone circuits very well. Just judging from the Transformer.

Weber speakers are really well made and US made. Kokomo IN

The logo is likely glued on with Elmers white glue. it will come off easily if so but will possibly leave a shiny mark where the glue was. Unless it's really bothering you, leave it?

Re: Thoughts? handwired single channel 1974x

that looks to be a well build little amp and weber makes good stuff. the 12f150 is a great speaker

Re: Thoughts? handwired single channel 1974x

i have a greenback that i may run it through also.

the guy who wired it apparently helped out the guys at trinity amps with some of their circuits.

Re: Thoughts? handwired single channel 1974x

I'm assuming it's used? I may be in the minority, but I would probably determine what it would cost me to build it or what a kit would cost, then factor in the cost of anything special, like the transformers, or quality of the cabinet build, plus the labor. Maybe the tubes if they are vintage. Then depreciate some for it being used (wear, nicks, whatever). It's a nice, neat build but I don't see anything special in terms of the passive components. And I wouldn't be inclined to pay more because someone with a "name" did a neat wiring job. But maybe that's just me. Probably doesn't help since I'm not providing a dollar figure. Just my thoughts.

Re: Thoughts? handwired single channel 1974x

It looks well built using decent components. It's more than you will get from most modern amp companies so pay what you feel it's worth without going over the used prices on ebay etc for similar amps.

Re: Thoughts? handwired single channel 1974x

picked it up today. got it for 850 CAD with a weber attenuator. guy tossed in a decent speaker cable with neutrik ends as well. its got a green back in it now.

all i have is adjectives. warm, natural, thick, raw. gritty, responsive, touch sensitive, woody, perfect breakup.

i love it so far. was after something that was gonna give me more kossoff tones and needless to say, my lester loves it.

quite the step from the marshall sl5.

That seems like a good deal. Cabinet looks well built and wiring is neat and looks in real good condition. Don't see how you could come close to that with any of the smaller amp builders who hand wire. Hell, I don't think you could find a good kit for that price. Maybe a scratch build if you built your own cab ... maybe. Congrats.

Curious ... which attenuator did you get with it?
