Thoughts on a Danelectro Pedal - Cool Cat

I just acquired one of the mid 1990's Cool Cat Chorus pedals and it was purchased more as a curiosity than actual need or want. Now, what has amazed me is how good this thing sounds. First, I did not realize until receiving it... 18 volts to power, takes two 9 volt batteries. But the kicker, like I said is the tone from this pedal. I would almost put money that it was analog. It just lays down some of the most lush chorus, not over the top, but if you push it, it will do the rotary thing. Not Leslie by any means but it makes its own unique mark. Solid metal housing, pot controls a little cheap however far enough away from my size 15 foot that I should not break them on the stomp. I do own some fairly decent chorus pedals, Hardwire and Chorus Factory to name just two, and have the effect built into my Acoustasonic and Fishman amps along with the RP1000's built in array of chorus effects. This one really could make it as a permanent placement on my pedal board.

Anyway, any other fans of this pedal?

I have one but haven't used it much.

It's such a subtle chorus compared to some that I've played but it does sound pretty natural. I should go grab some 9V just to test this baby out again.

I loved mine when I had it... wish I kept it. I gave it away thinking my new MXR yellow chorus was better.... the danelectro had such a thick sound in comparision imho.

First time I plugged it into two amps and hit an E chord was like getting that 'ah ha' moment!

I bought a used one a loooong time ago, but it was not functional at all. Dead as a door-nail.

Arion SCH-1 is also very good, but the prices are rising for that one. The large metal housing Dan-electro pedals aren't all wonderful, but I've found that the Fab-tone with serious mods can be really nice. I have the Daddy-O overdrive as well, but I haven't had time to try it out just yet.

I LOVE this pedal. The tone is killer. I like it even better than the Fulltone chorus currently on my board. I have an 18 volt adapter for mine...don't want to use 2 9 volts as that gets expensive.

My only issue is that my pedal has a weird thing where, when notes fall below a certain volume, I hear a little buzz and then hear only the unaffected (dry) tone. If I could fix that problem I would use this as my primary chorus; I'm not sure if it's a design issue or a problem within my particular unit. I wish I could get it worked out though.

I've still got one in the basement somewhere, along with the 90s Fab-Tone distortion and Dan Echo pedals. The Fab-Tone into the Cool Cat delivered a MASSIVE 80s metal distortion sound! I used to run that pedal combo into a Peavey Classic 30 with an additional 112 cab, and it was the hottest stack sound ever in a portable package.
