Thoughts on Godin guitars?

25's Nemesis
Hey all.

I have a line on a Godin LGX SA and I was wondering what y'all's thoughts are on these axes. I know it's shaped like a Lester, but has a bolt on, Fender scale neck with an ebony fingerboard. This makes me think it'll be more like a fat Tele than like a LP (not necessarily a bad thing).

My questions are as follows:

What's the neck shape closest to?

How "acoustic" can the RMC piezo system get (I play a SWR California Blonde for acoustic)?

How well does said RMC system track when used as a trigger for a Roland GR trigger.

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

i really love these axes... i prefer the high end LGX trem one with it's maple body... but the String thru mahogany LGX's are super nice!!!! I enjoy the sounds!!!! Try the Piezo system thru a Keyboard amp or a Acoustic amp and it is surprising how sweet it can be....

i have some lust for the newer Godin XTSA model as well..

I use a Godin Solidac model when i gigged... i used the Piezo's right thru my clean channel of my amp... it was close enough for me to not take an acoustic guitar everywhere i went... but thru an acoustic amp the Piezo systems shine

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

PS- one of the coolest things i've seen Godin do is on their trem guitar models... glued to both sides of the trem block is a black foam that squeezes up against the wood when you use the trem... it stops the bridge flutter when strumming on the floating bridge system.. helps the piezo system greatly

One of the common complates about Godins string thru designs is the ferrel issues on the guitars face... a lot of them slip down and the string chews into the wood as it is coming out of the hole... but minor issue if you correct it... still an amazing axe..

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

one of the best guitars I played was a 600$ godin LG with duncans, the LGX is the top of the godin line.
the godins are a XXI century clasic if you can get one then do it, for me this guitars in 20 years would be as priced as the vintage Rickenbackers of the early 60.

So for the love of god get it! even if you are just going to put it on a box!

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

the piezo is best than most parkers, and the neck mmmm.... the one I played has a thin one, like a fat teleneck or a thin SG neck :P

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

I love the montreal model... they're great guitars in general but I'm not a big fan of their 25.5 scale...

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

too big for you my friend?

I really dont feeled so much of a change, still comfortable
It's not too big (I actually have big hands), it's just that the 24 3/4 always felt more "at home" for me. Might also have something to do with the neck shape but all guitars I've tried or owned with a 25.5'' scale didn't feel as right as the other...

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

I own three Godins and love all of them. They are highly underrated guitars. Excellent build quality, playability, sound and feel.

I own three LG's, two with humbuckers and one with P-90's. They get played alot more than my Gibsons do.

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

I use a Brian Moore with RMCs...you will not find a better piezo system for triggering synths- it also has one of the best acoustic sounds too.

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

I had a P90 Korina Godin for a while. It was a nice guitar, extremely well made. I never mated with it (not talking about humping it!). It was an awesome guitar, just not in my hands (if that makes sense).

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

I've had an LG for almost 10 yrs now and with a set of PG's in it, its my LP. Its not my #1 but I'll always keep it. Built well, plays even better and is so comfortable its not funny.

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

I've always been a fan of their work, but have never seen one when I was looking for a guitar. I like the fact that they don't dye their fretboards. It just looks SOOOO much better that way to me. I hate a dyed fretboard. Oil it down and leave it alone.

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

also being honest to me The Godins and Parkers are the Fenders and Gibsons of the new millenium, I am not a fan of new models or brands, but for me these are new classics.

PD: maybe I am exagerating, but for me the ranking is Gibson, Fender, PRS, Parker, Godin, Gretch, all the others

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

If all goes well, I'll be getting it soon.

I'm planning on using an El Diablo in the bridge, probably paired with a PGb in the neck.

I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

The acoustic pickup in the LGX sounds great, it really is a good system.
When the LG series came with duncan pickups, they had a jazz in the neck and a custom custom that was tweaked with input from Seymour and Robert Godin, so I guess it's a custom custom custom. Mine has a 5 way switch and coil splits in positions 2 and 4. It is great sounding and really versatile.

Re: Thoughts on Godin guitars?

I know it doesn't help the original question, but I used to annoy the chaps at Century Music here in San Antonio back in the mid 90's by showing up every day to play the most expensive Godin's they had...never bought one though. I remember wanting to buy one very badly. I liked the neck shape, the body weight/balance, and I liked the versatility.
