Thoughts on Late 80s Jackson Soloists?

Re: Thoughts on Late 80s Jackson Soloists?

I certainly wouldn't ignore if I came across one in a store.

Re: Thoughts on Late 80s Jackson Soloists?

I remember staring at those designs at the music shop when I was a kid. Last year, a Charvel with that red crackle finish just slipped by me. Quite bummed about that.

Re: Thoughts on Late 80s Jackson Soloists?

I could have bought a few of them with that finish for cheeeep back in the mid 90's. I (and apparently most everyone else) thought the crackle finish was "dated". I should have.

I really like the ones with ebony boards more then rosewood. Nice guitars

Re: Thoughts on Late 80s Jackson Soloists?

Hell yeah, I'd snap one of those up if the price was right and had the extra cash on hand.

Yes, I agree the crackle looks very, very dated. And that's why I want one.

I also want that pink one Steve Vai has/had.

Re: Thoughts on Late 80s Jackson Soloists?

I bought one a few years ago- I think it's dated an '89- back when they were strictly custom shop, made to order. Has the Schaller Floyd, Bill Lawrence XL500. It came with 2 Jackson stacked singled, they failed, I'm trying to find a good match or upgrade all the pickups.

The guitar's built like a tank otherwise, I remember getting it for $899 used. It's heavier than my Les Paul and the neck is almost a beefy. Schaller Floyd has a nice feel. Only complaint is it's plain black, which I updated with stickers

Re: Thoughts on Late 80s Jackson Soloists?

80's Jackson USA Soloists in standard colors will probably prove to be the most collectible Jackson's, not negating graphic ones or imported ones as players though.

When I worked at GC Lawndale, Ca. in the late 80's, I sold bunch of Jacksons. There's some in my mind that were such gems, I'd love to have them, although I'm not a big Jackson player. But they were great guitars.....and many were ones I special ordered from Jackson.

Re: Thoughts on Late 80s Jackson Soloists?

I like 'em both but I love the finish of the red on the left!

Re: Thoughts on Late 80s Jackson Soloists?

Yeah the bigger cracks on the red one look better. I like them because every crackle is different.

Re: Thoughts on Late 80s Jackson Soloists?

Took the leap yesterday on a very nice condition Mid-Eighties Jackson "Made In USA" Soloist Custom in "Glow In The Dark Crackle" Finish (including the Reverse Headstock) with 2 Jackson Covered Singles Neck/Mid/Old Vintage Duncan Bridge (believe a DD based on sound) and a Floyd Rose Original. Looks pretty much like the one below but with the GITD Crackle finish on the Headstock as well. Pics will be forth coming.

Re: Thoughts on Late 80s Jackson Soloists?

Back in the early '90s, the other guitarist in my band briefly had a pair of Soloists. Not my cup of tea at all (I'm a vintage guy), but they were very nice guitars. One had the holo-skulls graphic; the other was black with painted neon tubes. I don't know why he didn't bond with them, but at the time he was going through a lot of guitars and amps (and nose candy).

Nice guitars.

Bill

Thanks!!! Someone just inquired on specs and Serial #...told it's an '88 Ontario Custom Order. Just tuned it and plugged it in...built like a tank and amazing sustain.
