Thoughts on Suhr guitars?

Lookin' at maybe picking up one of the Classic series, they look like killer guitars. Has anyone found them to be better/worse than American Fenders in the Strat department?

Re: Thoughts on Suhr guitars?

You're comparing Yugos with Mercedes here.

John Suhr was the man who helped Mark Knopfler to get his unmistakable sound and tone when he was the head luthier at Rudy Pensa's Music Stop in NYC when still located in 48th St. My guess is that the man knows a thing or two about strats.

That was over thirty years ago...? Man, I'm OOOOOOOLD!

Re: Thoughts on Suhr guitars?

Every Suhr that I've ever touched (and I'm constantly trying to touch!) has been an exceptionally sweet guitar that I could picture myself working on for years and years.

I feel that way about a Fender from time to time, but not like this!

My thoughts are.... A Suhr Strat is the only guitar I'm really wanting.

Re: Thoughts on Suhr guitars?

Suhr's are simply awesome! Different feel than Fender.

Whatver he's using to finish his mpl necks is the ticket for Poly, I like it as much as nitro.

I want a lightweight Classic w/ssc, V54's and huge neck eventually.

Re: Thoughts on Suhr guitars?

Suhr, D'Pergo, Tom Anderson, Tyler are pretty much beyond anything mass marketed in the Strat game i.e. Fender.

You don't want, you NEED a Suhr...

suhr strats will beat the piss out of anything thats not fender custom shop. plain and simple. the man is simply a setup master. im convinced he could make a $200 guitar play and sound like a $2000 guitar.

Re: Thoughts on Suhr guitars?

I know!

I'm actually eyeing the blue one (although I would certainly like that swirly finish in purple :D).

As for price, I'm guessing around the 2500$-3000$ area...

Actually with every kit guitar I make, I take them to Rudy's Music in NYC (Rudy Pensa, John Suhr's former partner is still there) for the final set up and fret dressing. They're pricey, but I think John Suhr's spirit is still there since they always make my guitars play like $3000 guitars.
