Ever since I sold off my old Les Paul Special, I've been missing the P-90 sound:( Then I saw this new Fender Tele Deluxe Black Dove with P-90's:eek5: Anyone got any experience with these? The Pro Guitar Shop demo is giving me some hard GAS:D

Re: Thoughts on the Fender Tele Deluxe Black Dove?

I may be totally off, but I think you would be hard-pressed to replace the sound of a LP Special P-90 w/a Fender P-90 guitar. I have owned a lot of P-90 equipped guitars and I never got the Gibby P-90 sound from a fender. Now I did get some really great sounds from fenders w/ P-90s. If a P-90 sound is all you're looking for then, this should be wonderful...I just don't think it will sound like your old Gibby. I absolutely love Teles w/P-90s!!!! They ROCK!

It won't sound like a Les Paul Special.

It will sound like a Telecaster with P90's.

So it'll probably sound pretty good.

Well, there is a reason I got rid of it;) It was a bit too dark and I can't stand a 24 2/4" scale anymore.

I love strats and teles now and love P-90's, so I figured, where could I go wrong?

If you like that P90 Tele idea, you may be pleasantly surprised by the Squier Tele Custom II. Just remember to upgrade the machineheads.

Re: Thoughts on the Fender Tele Deluxe Black Dove?

Those are good and you can easily swap the bridge for a modern unit.

Re: Thoughts on the Fender Tele Deluxe Black Dove?

I get really nervous about P90 routs, because I like to change stuff around and see what I get. Gibson has the P94, which is a P90 in a full humbucker-sized pup. Am really digging this idea, leaves room for change.

And Seymour Duncan has the Phat Cat

And GFS has the Mean 90

And Lollar has the SCFH

And Fralin has the P-92

And Seymour Duncan has the P-Rails

And...

aaaand none of them sound exactly like true P90's :smokin:

Of course neither will the Fender Black Dove Single Coils. That's what they call P90's

Love that thing. It's hot, and it sounds great on that demo.

Just enlightening the poster who apparently thought that only P94s can do the "P90 in a humbucker sized case" trick.

There are lots of humbucker sized P90s out there - and I think GFS Mean 90s are the best.

I'd rather have a Fender JA-90.

Yeah, this one has been on my mind too. I've tried one before and it was awesome. The best Indonesian made guitar I have ever played. I'm just not sure if a want a chambered body guitar (even if just around the f-hole like on JA-90).
