Thoughts on the SH-6...

I had my first band practice with newly installed SH-6 on my Gibson sg Gothic. My first thought was that the SH-6 doesn't seem as "hot" as it should be. I love that it is very quiet and tight, almost too tight. The 490 I had in the Gibson was just as loud and seems to have a little more sustain. I did a reading on the SH-6 and it was at 15.6k, seems low considering that the "tone chart" claims it to be 16.6!! So is this normal? Or did I get a dud? I really want to love this pickup!

Hmmmm doesn't seem right. Especially the quiet part. The distortion shoud sound like violence in a pickup.

Re: Thoughts on the SH-6...

It's quiet as in no hum...at all. Even at the loudest volume on my 5150 the feedback is very controllable.

Re: Thoughts on the SH-6...

Might be a stupid question but did you wire it right? maybe you wired it parallel.

Re: Thoughts on the SH-6...

I took it to a shop...everything looks wired right. The black(hot) is soldered on the vol lug...the green/ground is soldered to the pot, and the red/white are tied off.

Maybe it's not close enough to the strings. Pickup height has a very big impact on volume.
