Threaded holes I dont have.

Hello all. I picked up a pair of Seymours off Craigslist for $20. Advertised as Mystery pups, he didnt know what they were or if they worked.

Well, the 59 BJ works fine! I cannot make out what the other one is, but I can make out an NJ on the sticker. It has short legs, 4 wire lead and plenty of it. On my analog meter, it reads around 15k total and unless Im doing it wrong, 12.5k on each coil.
The hard part to under stand is that on the feet, there are 3 holes on each foot and NONE of them are threaded.I could post picts, but I know not how, if that would help.
How do they attach or do I have to tap them somehow. Thanks for any info, I would love to get this one in as well.

15k total and 12.5k each coil doesnt sound right. if none of the holes are threaded then youd have to tap them. seems odd they wouldnt be threaded but id be surprised if someone stripped all six holes

Thats what I was thinking. About the holes.
Next on my list is a digital meter, which I will get before a tap.

If the pickups were originally mounted directly into a guitar body using wood screws, there would have been no need for threading.

I did not know humbuckers were mounted that way. Is that why the 6 holes?

Hence the mystery deepens.....

I associate the six hole baseplate idea with Schaller and Carvin.

Are the base plates ex-changeable? If so, where could a 2 holed species be got?

trembucker spaced pups usually have those six hole baseplates. a new baseplate the same size that isnt stripped out is a relatively easy fix

That's just a standard TB baseplate, use the middle holes on each end. If it were previously direct mounted the holes might be jacked up, but it doesn't look that way from the picture, make sure you're using the correct size screws.

I'm sure that's a Custom or other custom variation at 15K.

The holes are not buggered up, still have what looks like orig paint in them. Some missing in the middle holes, me tring to get a screw to go in, and pretty solid on the outer holes.

So, if I can find a tap to match the screws, I be good to go?

The standard humbucker mounting screw is #3-48 ,If you were curious about the size

Well, you are definitely doing it wrong. There is no way you can get 12.5k on each coil and 15k total.

Are you measuring between the green and red wires, and the black and white wires to get individual coil readings? When you measure the total are you measuring between the green and black wires with the red and white wires twisted together?

I blame my meter. Old Radio Shack analog and the leads are shakey at best.

I had the red and white twisted for the total and probed the green and black. That number is close.15k

Just remeasured and it reads 11.5k on each coil. Could they be shorted out somehow?

I looked up the Black Backs, and dont know if these are them.
New meter says.....7.8k, 9k, total 17ishk. That makes more sense. Now, if I can just find a tap that small.
The sticker on this pup is not to readable, but I can make out NJ at the end. Seems a little hi for a neck pup......

Trembuckers are bridge pickups and tend to read higher than there SH counterparts. It could be a distortion, maybe a custom or probably a JB.

That is a Trembucker. Trembuckers have three screw mounting holes. I too have a feeling they are Black backs aka Ed Roman.

So I am getting a tap on Mon. On my way to work. Could make for a long night.... That and my 1st day back after 2 weeks off.
I need a push pull pot next. GC did not have one. I have a cheap Griffin, single humbucker by bridge that is slated for R&D. Plays OK, dont know what wood its made of, but I do know it aint plywood!

Now, where was it I work??????
