Three boring questions

1) Why do some people scallop the uppermost frets?

2) Is it possible to turn a knob that controls a piezo acoustic pickup into a pull/push knob?

3) What do you think of the new Fender Strat Tremolo, the two-point one with the vintage saddles?

And hell, while we're at it, what is your favorite color?

EDIT: My concern with the piezo knob thing is because since there is relatively complicated active circuitry connected to the knob, maybe it would be impossible to have a Piezo controlling knob a Pull/Push knob at the same time.

1) they are idiots
2) It may be possible..but WHY?
3)Sucks
4) Murder

Re: Three boring questions

1) One explanation is that if you have big hands, it's easier to fret the notes when they are scalloped.

2) Push/pull is a mechanical characteristic. It's either a push/pull pot or it isn't.

3) The only two-points I've used a lot are on Jeff Beck Strats, and I freakin' love that setup.

4) Midnight wine.

Re: Three boring questions

!) It's supposed to make bends and/or fretting the high frets (where the spacing between them is very narrow) easier. Personally I don't see it but then again I only have medium hands.

2) I take it you meant, "use a push/pull pot for the controls of a piezo acoustic pickup".
If so then the answer is, I can't see why not, AFAIK they are just ordinary pots.
On the other hand, if you meant "to turn an ordinary pot into a push/pull pot" then like JBfH said, no, a pot is either built as a push/pull or it's not.

3) Haven't tried them but personally, I like the extra sparkle\shimmer the bent-steel saddles have over the solid ones. If they are actual solid steel then I'd probably like them, if they're that pot iron cr@p like the MiMs have then I won't.

4) Don't really have ONE favorite color but:
- My favorite Solid/Opaque color is Midnight Blue
- On a Quilted top one of my favorites is the 3-tone Sunset Burst
- On a Flamed top one of my favorites is the Lavender Burst (it's kinda a blue-purple burst)
- On Ash, my favorite trans color is the new Sienna Sunburst.
- On Mahogany and other darker and/or intricately grained woods (like Bubinga or Spalted Maple) I prefer the natural finish.:D

Re: Three boring questions

Scalloped frets do make bending easier.
No finger drag against the fretboard.
Just a much smoother feel.
You feel like you have better control of the bend.

Re: Three boring questions

My Epiphone has a scalloped fretboard from the 12th and up, and I like it for soloing because the vibrato and bends become so much easier to do. Plus, you can play thicker strings without so much strain from playing heavy leads.
