Three new PAF pickup sets compared to original '58 PAFs

I'm not a pickup winder, but I know James at Rewind Electric winds his bridge pickups with varying coil offsets for the pickup itself and also b/w the neck pickup. Having owned several of his winds, that are of similar specs, I haven't heard a huge difference.

And yes, $500 is a lot of for a normal set of pickups. Some winders have stashes of vintage coil wire that Gibson or Fender used back in the day and they barely charge a little over what Throbak is charging. The one thing I do like is their plastics. They do look less cheesy and not over done. Jumping into the vintage replica game can be a huge rabbit hole.

I'm very happy with my three sets of Antiquitys.

They're all wound hotter than my 59's and Seth Lovers but within the range of what the experts say you'd find if you measured 50's Gibson PAF pickups.

Some PAFs were wound hotter than most/some were wound weaker than most.

I like mixing magnets in a set and Gibson did that in the 50's too.

When two pickups, each with different magnets, are combined I get more interesting chime and clean tones.

So I have A3 & A2 and A2 & A4 and A3 & A5 in my three Antiquity sets in my three most played guitars.

My PRS guitars have a single volume and single tone control.

I get a much clearer tone with more sparkle from an A3 or A2 neck pickup if I disconnect the tone control from the neck pickup and connect it to only the bridge pickup.

The tone control works like normal for the bridge pickup, and when the bridge and neck are combined.

But the tone control is disconnected when the neck pickup is used all by itself.
