Time for a pedalboard thread

Re: Time for a pedalboard thread

I use a Boss CE2 Chorus, a DD3 and Ts9(modded), wah. I have a few chorus pedals and keep coming back to the CE2. It just sounds more realistic and there isn't too much to get in the way. The same thing with my DD3. I use it to just make my solos sound a little more full. The TS9 is a legendary pedal and for what I do it works perfectly. With my Deluxe Reveb I have the gain set at about 11 oclock and tone and volume to just push the solos a bit. With my Shiva I turn the gain all the way down and adjust volume & tone to suit. I try not to colour my tone too much. I generally use it like a clean boost with the Shiva, with my Fenders I use it like a channel switch.

You ever think about swapping the Sunface and chorus positions? Probably get a lot more dynamics out of the Sunface having it after the Beano.
Never crossed my mind. In actuality, I don't ever really consider pedal order. :)
But, I'll give it a shot; couldn't hurt, right?

I would love to get my Naga Viper squeezed onto this board; where would you advise putting it? In front of the Beano?

TO, pedal order is a key fundamental. It can produce the difference between a good sound and a truly awesome 'right' sound since it changes the way the pedal'e interact with other and affects the gain stage on each pedals input. It can prevent some nasty artifacts also. Obviously with audio there are no rules in the end, but tried and true experience offers a certain level of clarity.

If you don't use an FX loop for modulation and delays, here is a basic guide for maximizing your tones: Tuner-Wah-Comp-ODs-Modulation-Volume Pedals-Delay-Reverb
Robert Keely suggests using your primary OD first, then Comp...then the other ODs but I found that is a matter of taste. Same with Volume Pedal before or after delay.

Boost pedals go where you need them. Obviously if you put them BEFORE the ODs, you will drive the OD pedal harder, if you put them AFTER the ODs you get a boost of your original signal (ln addition to any OD gain the boost pedal may provide dependent on setting). It really is an art IMO and each pedal you add/subtract can effect the balance.
Youve got some nice pedals! Good luck and cheers!

Order isn't super important if you rarely if ever use pedals in combination or use your guitar's controls to manipulate gain levels from dirt boxes. But if you do either of those things, it can be incredibly important.

I wrote a little blog article awhile back for work that you might find useful:

I don't see why you'd need two treble boosters on the same board, but if you're so inclined I'd put it near the front along with the Beano and Sunface - actually maybe after the SF - so Beano -> SF -> Naga Viper.

The "right" sound is so subjective to the player and the style of music. There is no right or wrong way to setup your effects. Pedal order is as personal as a fingerprint.
