Tips for cleaning a pedal board?

First, Im kinda picky about keeping my gear nice. Second, since I have to practice in the garage. my board gets dirty from my feet, even tho I sweep the floor constantly. So, Ive got sand on the board tween the pedals and on the pedals in the tread and where the controls are.. I keep it covered when not in use. Anyhow, any tips on cleaning it?? I wipe with rags, wisk broom and canned air. Anyone have any other ideas how to clean em?? Thank you!

Re: Tips for cleaning a pedal board?

If you have access to an air compressor with a blower that would be your best option. Much more powerful than canned air.

An old toothbrush helps me clean mine. I don't like pedals that get dusty or dirty, even though I step on them a lot. A shop vac helps, too, if it is really dusty. I try to keep my pedals covered, too, when I am not using them.

Pancake compressor set to about 60PSI and a stiff brush usually does the trick. For heavy external cleaning, I'll give a pedal a wipe down with a rag and a little rubbing alcohol to get actual dirt and tape goo off. ProGold G5 for contact/jack cleaner.

When you sweep the floor, do you use a broom? If so, consider a shop vac. I heartily endorse the Ridgid brand at Home Depot.

Man, maybe start by not storing it in the garage? Dirt and dust, tires... seems like there are better places.

Vaccum Cleaner or since it is in a garage, one of those long lasting car dusters/brushes would help. I wouldn't use a blower, sand/dust wil find a way quicker into the pedals through the open(stereo) sockets that way, worse if there's a wah/volume with a non sealed pot.

Re: Tips for cleaning a pedal board?

Yeah, definitely a vacuum rather than a blower on my Furman SPB-1 board with a Velcro base. I use a Shop Vac with a brush attachment and I'm real careful going around the knobs--they can be pulled off! Picks up 99% of the dirt, lint and pine needles.

For the last few years, I've used some auto wax on the pedals before putting them on the board as a protectant.

And damp rag when they get dirty, followed by a dry terry cloth.

Yeah, I keep mine covered when not in use, for sure.. I hate for my gear to get dirty. This board seems to attract dirt.. Thats why I asked .. haha.. dirt on the board, pedals, etc.. I WISH I had an air compressor. I use a small wisk broom after each use to try to brush off the extra, such as in the treads and such.. And I vacuum it frequently. AND.. I sweep my garage all the time.. But, open the door and dirt and crap blows in .. I try not to be quite so A- retentive and tell myself that if I was gigging, Id be at outside gigs and traveling, etc..

Thanks for the input ya'll! Will try some of the tips and a toothbrush will be good for getting tween the dials and such. Another reason I asked and didnt put in my orig post is often when Im trying to wipe it up, the rag or whatever Im using will move my knobs and mess up my settings.. I usually draw a diagram of my pedals and mark my settings so I can go back to my normal settings at a glance. Need to update that.

Wax is a good idea too! Be tedious trying to keep away from knobs and all tho..

Gotcha! I guess you get warm weather and we get basements!

Can you at least get a big storage bin for it that might seal out the dust?

Re: Tips for cleaning a pedal board?

I found an unnused old timey shaving brush at Goodwill for a buck. It works great for pedals and amp chassis.

For the fuzzy ozite pedalboards, I use packing tape to clean them up like a lint roller.

Grew up in Ohio.. we had a basement there.. But wasnt finished nicely, so too much moisture..
Ill look into a storage container.. I keep it covered when not in use. biggest issue is dirt from my feet when Im using it. Even tho I sweep the floor often.. Dirt blows in..

Re: Tips for cleaning a pedal board?

I’ve been using Vinegar Windex with an old white T-shirt and q-tips to clean mine. The vinegar windex is pretty mild, if you’ve got stubborn stuff the regular cleans up stuff well. It can bleach the rubber stomp pads though.

Re: Tips for cleaning a pedal board?

Just buy a rug or mat to set the board on whilst your playing, then roll it up when not in use.
