Tips on getting more headroom out of EL84 30 watter

Re: Tips on getting more headroom out of EL84 30 watter

I wound up renting an old USA Fender hot rod Deluxe to try out... it was 350 used so I figure if it has high headroom at 40 watts and takes my pedals well I might trade my Traynor for it and get money back to save for a trip... good thing I have not ordered those tubes yet! still holding onto my Mesa Lonestar Special 4x10 EL84 30 watts though but that amp has a lot more headroom and volume

The Deluxe needs biasing when changing tubes though doesn't it ?

A speaker with a high SPL rating will give you a louder cleaner sound (at least a 103 SPL). The higher the SPL the louder clean sound you can get.

Be sure your Master Volume is on 10....all he way up for maximum headroom.

You say your speaker is a celestion 30 right ? I'm assuming that means it can only handle up to 30 watts ? Seeing that your amp is a 30 watt tube combo, maybe you should upgrade the speaker to something that can handle more power. like a Eminence Legend 75 or something like that ?

I Could be wrong but I think the vintage 30 handles 60 watts. But a speaker change is for sure on the table I I decide to keep the amp
