Tis the season

I picked up my Omen 7 string last night, and there was too much relief and a few dead spots on the neck. It played beautifully just this Saturday. I took a look at it, and there is too much relief. It's time for a seasonal adjustment. I haven't looked yet, but I am sure my SG and Les Paul lite will need a truss tweak—they do every spring and fall. I have already done my buddy Corey's Jazz bass, and Ric this week, they were both way out. I am going to be doing setups on two or three guitars a day it seems for the next couple of weeks.

Yes it is, 3 out of 4 of my guitars needs or needed a truss rod adjustment after we moved a month ago. Only one that didnt move is my Iceman

My Les Paul and SG Jr usually need a slight tweak. The Tele has been holding steady as have both Strats. The necks are a little to a lot fatter than the LP and SG Jr and the Strats have the double-action truss-rod (Warmoth necks).

Everything has needed tweaks over the winter this past year. The weather has been on crack, spring keeps on almost showing up and then boom, an inch or two of fresh snow this morning. The only instrument I have that's really stable is my six string bass.

Both of mine have been fine for decades but I attribute that to their age. They are both 45 years old and very settled in. I also never have to touch my 50-year-old ovation Deacon.

One of the only great things about living in Florida is that there are not really any seasons, so no seasonal adjustment needed.

Is battling the humidity your most significant issue in maintaining your guitars?

I guess everyone else is just going to let this humble brag slip by. Not me, Bruce. Not me.

Playing outside with high temps and high humidity means guitars get super dirty and strings last 1 show. Have to spend about an hour the day after each show stripping the guitar down and detailing it or else it just stays sticky.

Two or three setups a day times fourteen days. Look how many guitars Bruce has! I thought you were special before, for what it’s worth.

Yes, I have a good collection of guitars in the 20s. But I just did two for my buddy Corey. Where his basses sit in the studio there is a draft and all of his basses are knocked way out. He has around 10. Then I will have to do my bass player's basses and other guys at our rehearsal space will be handing me guitars. There has to be at least 30 guitars in the space. I have Corey's other RIc and Charvel on deck and need to hit my 3 main guitars before tomorrow's practice.

Don't have to do much regarding seasonal adjustments here in AZ. Though I do keep my acoustic in a case with humidifier packs.

Yeah, in AZ, definitely gotta keep the humidity right, at least thru the winter / spring months. Monsoon season will give you plenty of moisture in the air. :D

When I stayed in Phx
the monsoon rarely reached the ground

Clouds lighting single drop occasionally makes it down and evaporated immediately

But that was 25 yrs ago

I'm sure its cooled off since then

Hey wait

The first spring I was there 2001

It rained every day for a week
Ended a drought
The mountains turned pastel with flowers
There was fog driving into phx in the morning

Wild

Late July 2019 I was out there for my dad's funeral mass and days before the service it was sunny and clear. The day of his service was rainy, muggy, and felt like a summer day from where we grew up in New York State. Like humid to the point of drying off from a shower and still being wet. A system came in and just hung there for a couple days. The day I left to come back to TX it was clear again.

Told y'all this was coming. I dropped off another one of Cory's basses last night, and his guitarist Jim handed me this neglected and abused Chavel that was once his No. 1. He asked me if I could bring it back to its former glory.
