To all my Bros!

Re: To all my Bros!

first and foremost - thanks to SD, all the employees of the SD company, and the volunteer admins for making this forum available ... it's still my first stop on the web every time i log on ... yeah, i am ready for a religion ban sad to say

i'd be all over a monthly 1 hr podcast produced by the SD folks (more frequent if they could swing it) .. interview with an endorsing artist or two ... new product demos ... tech tips ... head-to-head pup comparisons to point out the subtle differences (e.g. 59b vs. C5b, AIIPn vs. PGn, seth vs ant, etc...) ... some playing technique tips from our beloved telemaster ... war stories from seymours past ... life lessons with uncle evan :D ...

i'm tellin ya .. it'd would be the best hour on the internet

cheers
t4d

ps - luis, you dont need an ipod to listen to a podcast ... it is just a long mp3 ... you could listen to it on your computer just as easily as d/l ing to an mp3 player

Maybe a 20 questions to forum members. Each week, a forum member is selected and asked 20 questions by other members. Get to find out a little bit more about each other, and maybe have a little fun. Questions could range from things like your favourite band etc to what's your favourite pastry or someting...
Just a thought.
That could be REALLY cool!

A lot of these ideas sound great, especially the tip of the week. I'll have to put some thought into it and see if I can come up with anything else. Needless to say, I'm not exactly disappointed in this site. :D

We did this a year or two ago, let everyone post reviews on pups, then moved them to the Vault. Maybe we should Un-vault them?

or if someone adds a review, I can always merge it into the particular vault review thread.

Maybe the vault needs to better organized..... like a section for "how to do", a section on PUP reviews, a section for amp/gear reviews. The one thing I have always found a little misleading as far as PUP clips and things of that nature is: there is never enough detail explaining how the clip was created. Such as what guitar, how it was set, what amp and how it was set, etc. Keep in mind that when you are listening to clips thru PC speakers its hard to visualize what you re really hearing. A better detail explanation of each clip would be helpful (IMO)

Oh, thanks. If its that simple than yeah, go for it if you folks have the time to do it :)

Re: To all my Bros!

+1 on the PodCast idea.

One of the coolest things about the TV series BattleStarGalactica is that the producer guy has a pod cast of each weeks show. It's kinda fun to hear his opinions on stuff. I don't listen to all of them, but now and then when an episode goes completely whack, it's fun to get his take on teh situation.

Evan and Seymour... that'd be interesting. Maybe just answering a few user questions. It wouldn't have to be an hour, but it could be. This stuff is not difficult to do these days. You don't have to have an Ipod to make a pod cast.

Heck, my brother in law has this little digital recorder and he records abbrievated play by play of his son's highschool baseball games, then they post them on the net.

Re: To all my Bros!

Been looking into the whole thing. I think we'd be happy with anything even if it was just a long thing with a lot of stuff in it, some words from Seymour, a bit of Evan, you (Scott F.), Evan, Robert and the other site admins like Miss Kellie... all that stuff. That would be pretty cool. Some news from the company, the forum (for instance our new admin), product tips...

I'm staying out of here, the ideas are too much for my head...

Re: To all my Bros!

Random thoughts:

- I like the idea of pickup reviews (vaulted or not) being easily located so we don't have to ask the same questions over and over

- I like the idea of a SD radio station linked to this site

- This one is hard for me to put the right way - but I think religious discussions should be controlled in the same way political discussions are. They generally get to a point where people are picking sides and flames begin. Seriously, if you have a religous question: find a church. You will find better answers there than in a guitar forum.

- Having said that, I have noticed that a lot of people here (more than I would have expected) are like me and play guitar in church. There are issues involved playing in that type of venue that are unique, and I would hope that we would be allowed to continue discussing those issues - and continue without it breaking out into a religous war. Does that make sense?

In summary, I will also say that this has become my favorite place on the net and I really appreciate how it has been run.

Re: To all my Bros!

A band section. Let folks talk about what and where and why they are creating. The making of music is reason #1 why we have all these noisemakers. It should be celebrated. There could be a band of the week or band of the month showcase ( no contests, not really what creating is about). I think it would be wonderful to really embrace the amazing range of music that folks display here.

Dangerous threads should be locked (instead of deleted) so that we all can be held accountable for what we have said. Members who choose to offend and abuse should be seen.

Re: To all my Bros!

This thread is just another example (of many) of why this forum is such a great place.

As stated above, a section of tutorials would be great. Guitar technique with audio, video, or tabs. Technical stuff like changing tubes in amps or modding pickups or guitars. Micing techniques would be cool as well as other recording techniques.

As far as religious topics, or any other topic for that matter, it's like turning the channels on a T.V. If I'm not in the mood to read it, I simply don't click on the thread...simple as that.

My thanks go out to Seymour Duncan, all the admins, and all you fellow members out there for allowing this forum to exist and thrive. It really is the best music related place on the net and like someone posted above, it's the first place I visit when I log on.

The only thing I'd like to see is for veteran bros, (and sisters), to be more cognizant of "setting the tone" for newbies. If someone gets out of line, respond with a cool, calculated response. Don't lay your "buttons" out to be pushed. They'll realize quickly that this place is cool, calm, and collected. ;)

P.S. Kudos to the admins for doing such an outstanding job. This place is the coolest spot on the web.

Well said my friend.

One of the best things I found here was the videos of Seymour installing pickups in different guitars... more along these lines would be great

Re: To all my Bros!

I echo T4D's thanks to Semour and Evan for allowing this place to exist. It's great being able to talk about pickups and gear and even have one of them chime in from time to time, even if Seymour posts an answer via proxy...lol.

Aside from what we have already, something that could be neat for everyone is a SDUG Clips page of each of the pickups. I'm sure between all of us every model is covered, or darn close to it. Everyone cut a clean and dirty clip of their pickup(s) and have them hosted on a page. Maybe even outline what gear was used for each clip. I know Stevo has a bunch, I've got a few as do others.

I like the 20 questions idea, and the contests. Dang I was close on the last one....LOL.

I come here to talk about the pickups and gear, get advice from others and help others out. To me, that's what this place is about. It just so happens that cool friends come out of it too.

Re: To all my Bros!

I like the idea of podcasts... like a Q and A with seymour himself if even only for 10 minutes.

I havent been here as much in recent months as I used to be, but I do have a suggestion (hopefully without ruining the mood). Maybe an FAQ section where we can "vault" and lock questions that get asked frequently, without taking up valuable vault space for important information. Many forums have sections like that, and even thought only 50% of people will read them, at least the same members wont have to answer the same questions... especially about pickups. Again, just a suggestion nothing urgent or I feel strongly about... figured it might be a good idea? Who knows. At any rate, this place is starting to shape back up into the place I remember from 2 years ago and its pretty sweet.

Contest ideas are great.

I think religious topics should be banned. They've become so predictable these days and always go as follows.

- Some reasonable, nice talk.

Then either;

- A christian states that homosexuals, other religions, non believers or whoever are going to burn in hell!!!!!!
- One of those people apparently heading for hell, or a person who sympathises with those, will state that this is an offensive thing to say.
- Christian will claim that it's not offensive because they are a sinner too, or they love the sinner but not the sin, or some other thing.
- Flame war starts and everyone gets annoyed.

Or;

- A 16 year old athiest says, for no reason, that christianity is a load of rubbish and 'there's no evidence'.
- Christians reply with a poor argument.
- Athiest counters with poor argument.
- A whole load of poor arguments.
- Christians get offended.
- Athiests rant.
- Flame war and everyone gets upset.

What is the point?!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, you guys pretty much know my beliefs. I agree with Mattt though... when it becomes people just defending their stances in every post of a thread, it becomes pointless...

Robert, I think this is a cool idea. I'll see what my feeble mind can conjur up.

Re: To all my Bros!

I like the idea of Forum-designed pickups, being bought in bulk at a discount, like the Brobucker project. I think it's a win/win situation, because SD makes money off a large order, we get a new dream pickup made, and SD gets ideas for new pickups, based on our feedback.

Since the Brobucker turned out to be a success, I'd suggest another order of 100-200......only this time, we could make a different one like a Custom/59 hybrid, wound to the optimum numbers, with the perfect magnet?

Re: To all my Bros!

A lot of great suggestions......stevie_bees idea is really cool as is the podcast thing. As far as the religious threads, I just stay out of them...no use in fighting amongst ourselves on so subjective of a topic.

I think a page with a list of each of the Seymour Duncan pickups would be great with the ability to post reviews of the pickups that you've used. Then it would be easy for a guy to quickly get reviews on a pickups. Then, new guys wouldn't need to use the search function. :) But, that may be too HC like.

Maybe a glossary for industry jargon having to do with amps, tubes, effects, and pickups. An FAQ page!

I like the idea of a music learning section with some tutorials. If the tutorials could have video so a noobie could see playing techniques as well as hear would be awesome.

How about a bringing in a pro once a week to talk with about gear, etc? That would be way cool.
Yess that is a very good idea.

A section with backing trax will be real cool.
So we can jam together without an e-mail traffic and we can learn more from each-other!!!
There are some forum bros wich are better in drumm programming and rythm guitar. So we can have real fun with good backing trax.Maybe every week a new one to jam along and recording it.And even post it to see who plays what and how.!!!
