Re: To All U Guys Who Make Ur Own Guitars!!!!!!
what kind of tools do i need to get started? i need everything
are you talking making from lumber or putting together parts guitars from suppliers?
First is dust masks and eye protection... ear plugs.. and having someone show you the correct way to safely use power tools
for making your own necks and bodies out of lumber the most used power tool i use is a Router and various bits..... followed by a good drill press... A router is the worlds most dangerous hand power tool!!!! careful!
Nothing really substitutes a full equiped wood shop but you can get pre machined body blanks and neck blank boards if you do not have access to such equipment... i work in a building that happens to have a wood shop where i can use planers, band saws, jointers, and drum sanders
for neck and fret work you will need Radiused sanding blocks, a straight edge, a quality set of rulers of various sizes, some files, some special fret crown files...
for nut work you will need a set of nut files for sure...
for spray painting the body and necks you should have a compressor with a good tank, a good spray gun and an in line filter to stop water and oil coming thru the compressor and ending up in your paint job.... and some quality charcoal painter masks to filter out the harmfull fumes....
a Shop Vac with a Fine Dust filter in it is extremely handy!!! a regular vaccum filter lets the fine wood dust thru and will kill the motor and put the dust back in the air... so a quality shop vac with a fine dust/drywall filter is the way to go.... you will find you use a shop vac like crazy
