To sell or not to sell...

Prayin' to Cheeses
After a lot of gear purchases and sorting out amps and whatnot, I find myself with a Mesa dual recto half stack that I am having a hard time justifying any more. It's really too much amp - more features, channels and volume than I need. It sounds great but I have found my Express 5:50 does a great job live, is less complex and has power scaling.

In theory I might use the recto to record with, but it's a lot of gear to keep around for just that. I have two other heads I could use as backups to the 5:50 and I just don't see the point of keeping it around. Yet I still kind of want it just because it's awesome.

What do yall think I could get for it if I sold it (locally, there is a dude who may be interested). It's a 3 channel, pre-power scaling 100 watt dual recto with a matching traditional slant 4x12 (V30s). It's in great shape, works perfect, all footswitches/cables/dust covers, etc.

I might trade it in to my local dealer too but if this dude buys it, I am sure I could get way more than on a trade-in.

Re: To sell or not to sell...

Used heads on Ebay are listed from $800 on up to around $1,600, with most of them in the $1,200--1,400 range. Cabs can run anywhere from $500-800. There's a Triple Recto 1/2 stack on my local Craigslist for $1,800--with out the accessories you list.

I think $1,800 would be a good place to start for a rig in excellent condition.

Re: To sell or not to sell...

Depends on location. Some dude was selling a triple recto for $700. Search cl, ebay (what they actually sold for and retailers used section. That should give you and idea. For the package around my market is more like 12 to 15.

Re: To sell or not to sell...

I hear ya. I just finished up another round of mods to my JVM and now like the amp enough that I put both my Splawn and my Triple Rec up for sale.

If I were in your shoes, I would ask $1200-$1300 for the Dual Rec with a bottom dollar of $1000-$1100, and $600 for the cab and wouldn't take any less than $475.

Re: To sell or not to sell...

I was thinking $1400-$1500 for the head and cab together. They are in great shape so maybe I should hold fast on $1500. That's a great deal for a classic 100 watt metal platform, I think.

Re: To sell or not to sell...

I'd recommend offering them separately too. Don't just sell as a pair. There will be less need for both and the price will put people off. And give a bit of a discount if you bundle them. Example (not your actual price) $1500 for the pair or $1100 for the head and $600 for the cabinet. Something like that.

Re: To sell or not to sell...

I've seen that pair sit for months around here at $1400. If you wanted to move it within a few weeks, try $1200. It's a buyer's market for 4x12 cabs these days, I found a Recto slant for $350 locally a few weeks ago. I think it's still for sale.

Re: To sell or not to sell...

I agree that 4x12s seem to languish on CL and in a lot of local shops. But that particular cabinet should still appeal to the people still buying 4x12s.

Re: To sell or not to sell...

I think the other guys have nailed it pretty good.
That is a nice rig you have.....but Mesa made A LOT of them in one form or another.

Yeah.....4x12 have become a joke. You can sell a 2x12 much easier, and probably for the same price.
I have Two 4x12...I wish I could sell them. I had each of them listed on my local CL a few times.....200 dollars firm.....I got all kinds of Weird/Low-ball offers.
NO...NO I will not take 35 bux and a 'broken" cement mixer.
The Joys of Craigslist ;)
good luck

Re: To sell or not to sell...

I've used 4x12s as long as I can remember, and I love 'em - but I have two now and I only need one. I agree they are hard to sell, for one thing they are a huge pain to ship, for another, most guys probably won't buy one unless they are in a super heavy band. But I have a couple of leads on it so I'll see how it goes. Thanks to all y'all for weighing in with advice, much appreciated.

Re: To sell or not to sell...

I'd sell the head and try and nab a Stiletto instead.

I like them so much better than the Rectos.
