Ok. I think I'm gonna buy a JB for my bridge and I currently like my Marshall sound and how it sounds really good for a simple sound. What I would like to know from anyone who uses a JB and Marshall setup is what Marshall do you think sounds good for traditional Heavy Metal tone? AVT series to the TSL. I don't necessarily need comments on the Mode 4 but, if you think it helps.

Well, I just finished a lengthy romp with my JCM800/2204...I walked away w/ my ears ringing, and a smile on my face. An LP w/ a C5, lead the attack...I really love this amp; so I'll cast a vote for it, for "traditional" metal tone.

I've got a TSL in good shape with new preamp tubes and "newish" power tubes I'll sell you. I play metal on it and really like having a third channel on it. Everyone's got a different opinion on Marshalls though. But seriously, if you are interested in one, mine is for sale. Shoot me a PM if you want.

JCM800 with/without a modded SD-1 in front. I dont like the modern series of Marshalls too much, but the 800's with an OD pedal is beautiful.

TSL's frustrate me. I don't like to fiddle too much with knobs to get a good sound.

I do dig the old single channel 50 watters though that were reissued with an effects loop. You basically plug in, crank up, and rock. :burnout:

I have a AVT150H, can handle it very well...mind you I want to get DSL50, those things kill!

I'd look at the DSL and TSL for more modern metal sounds and the JCM800s for more of a classic metal tone. Even a JMP with a OD or distotion pedal in front will get you classic metal tones.

I've used a JB (my guitar) straight into a Marshall, and the tone was pure rock and roll! It will probably sound great!

I use a JB into a modded Marshall JCM 800. Pure hard rock sound.

JCM800 is my top choice - you can milk a ton of sounds
Second is the Jubilee, but they are hard to find
Third choice is the Marshall DSL

Otherwise I would consider some boutique brands if I were you.

DSL's, TSL's, 900SLX, and Jubilees.

However, if you're already getting a decent Marshall tone, don't buy any SS Marshall or 6L6 Marshall, it's just not the same.

Also, you should invest in a good OD pedal for around $160-$240, since you can get a lot more out of a tube amp with the right one.

I will say though, that if you want a bluesy overdrive, get a Fender Twin Reverb with a master volume or other Fender Twin with a master volume. It allows you to overdrive the channel (put channel volume to 10) while not blowing up the amp (master volume = 5 or so). You get great cleans when you back off the volume, and nice bluesy overdrive. But hey, an amp is an amp, and Marshalls sound great too.

Jb + Marshall is flawless! IMO you gonna a great OD or Dist sound with great definition (for example dave mustaine or Paul Stanley or Warren D'Martini)

For metal? Believe it or not buy my first choice would be a Plexi. Followed by the JCM800. I played a DSL and thought it was cool, but I'm kinda turned off by the poor build quality.

I'm a straight-into-amp guy and have really been enjoying the sound of my JB-loaded DK2M into my Pro Mod. I'd say based on that, you're probably in a somewhat similar ballpark.

Should be real nice.

well, then again - EVH and Slash - 2 of the baddest metal players ever used Plexi-style amps.

Turn it up loud enough and it gets seriously crunchy. Not really useful if you're after that uber-high gain sound, but for a rhythm player like myself it's got some serious crunch power.
