I'd go for it.

Tokai's suposed to be one of the better copy makers out there. I'd check out some mid 90's Japanese Fernandez teles as well. I got mine for undre $200 and it's great. It came with Kluson copies by Gotoh and a steel 3 saddle bridge.

I've played a few Tokai's mostly the lawsuit model's And IMHO there
about as close to the real thing as you can get! This is a post lawsuit
model. But the Quality is still probaly good. I would email him and
make sure this is a MIJ model ?? I've heard Tokai was farming some
of it's low end stuff out to Korea? One more thing. I noticed it didn't
have brass saddles on it ? ( just a minor detail) But I think 52's came
with brass ?

There are (or were) a couple of Hamer Teles on eBay in the $400 range. One was a 3-pup model.

Yep that is a Korea one, the strap pins gives it away.
But if it is one of the new ones from Korea, then it is quite good!

Why not pay a bit more for a real one? The real job will hold it's value for ever. A copy is a copy.

If you could dig up an old 80's Tokai Breezesound......those are great guitars, preferly with the old spaghetti logo.

Tokais, no matter from Japan or Korea are/were great guitars. I had a Breezysound when they first came out in the early '80s. In fact, that was the Tele I bought after I heard Albert Lee. I couldn't afford a 52 RI Fender but I could afford the $250.00 that the new Breezysound cost. Mine was a MIJ model. I do agree with Lee though. For an auction that'll probably go over $400, you could wait a bit and get a 52 RI for around $800...

i've had my eye on the tokai's for a while .. i wish i could play/see one first ... i might pull the trigger yet ...

i've not seen a fender 52ri go for as low as 800 on ebay .. most of them go a good bit higher ... 400 is much more doable for some people than 800+ .. there are some nice looking MIJ fender 52ri's that go for in the 600s and 700s, but then there is ~$100 shipping from japan

what do you all think of this one?

anyone know much about samick/valley arts? .. i thought samick makes very inexpensive guitars for beginners and valley arts makes mucho dollar pro quality gear (larry carlton / steve lukather / brent mason / etc)

Hello Hello--
As far as holding it's value, always go with the Japanese Tokais [not Korean..] and also make sure the body wood is alder or ash [and if it's ash, make sure it's LIGHT ash !

I have owned 2 Tokai Korean 52 Tele's and they are among the best guitars I have ever owned. The necks are absolutley perfect, they stay in tune and are extremely resonant. I have recorded ( hit my link and listen to Invasion From Planet K, that is the Tele doing all the rhythm stuff) extensively as well as gigged with them a ton. I traded away my first one for studio time and it is now the owners # 1 guitar as well, that is among PRS and USA Fender's that he owns. The nut is worth replacing as well as the electronics. I have not missed my US 62 RI Tele at all, in fact I sold it to get the Tokai and have an extra 500.00 to play with. Hell of a guitar and both were set up perfect out of the box.

I got them both from Mike's Music and was very pleased.
