TOM replacement

Re: TOM replacement

TonePros are also zinc alloy bridges, just so you know, and they are made in Korea, not Japan by Gotoh like they used to be several years ago.

If you are looking to get away from the zinc alloy bridges, you have very few choices.

Oh yeah, and just because it's zinc doesn't mean it's bad ;)

Re: TOM replacement

I picked up a Gotoh aluminum one not that long ago. I really like what it did to my LP. Picked it up on Reverb cheap.

Re: TOM replacement

I want to change stock ZAMAK bridge on my Gibson Explorer to some quality stuff.

I know that ABM produces TOM both in steel and brass version :

There is also GraphTech Resomax bridge but ... I'm bit sceptical about this.

Which one you would reccomend me ? What are the differences in tone between steel vs brass bridges ?

For what it's worth ... I have Graphtech bridges on two guitars. They were the stock bridges. I don't know what "Resomax Alloy" really is. They claim it's a proprietary equivalent to aluminum but stronger. Whatever it is, they are really nice bridges. Nicely machined (or cast) and nicely finished and plated. But, they aint cheap. Graphtech customer service was excellent when I needed a part.

Re: TOM replacement

If your thinking about Graphtech spend the extra money and go with the autolock feature. Well worth the money cause when you change strings the hardware stays in place.

Re: TOM replacement

Thank you guys.
I want something really solid. Saddles on my TOM are worn , especially on wound strings and I don't want to mess with them , I would rather change whole bridge.
I also considered this Babicz bridge but ... I'm also sceptic on this one , all of the claims etc.

And also there is one thing ... If heavier bridge will result longer sustain ?

Re: TOM replacement

Last time I picked up a (metric) TonePros it was definitely a Gotoh with 2 more holes.

Well, it's either been a while since you bought one or you got older stock ;)

The Gotoh-made units say "TonePros by Gotoh" on the bottom. The newer, Korean-made versions simply say " Tonepros".

Here's the older (Gotoh made) logo:

Re: TOM replacement

Let me see whether I can find mine. I got it in 2008 or 2009, so that's the minimum age.

Re: TOM replacement

I wonder if anyone has any experience with Schroeder Guitar Hardware. I like their guitars a lot and was wondering if anyone had tried their TOM or Stoptail.

I'm having a custom LP-ish guitar built and was considering this bridge. Anyone tried them yet?

Re: TOM replacement

+1 on Faber. I put their TOM and aluminum tailpiece w/steel studs on one of mine and it was a big improvement.
