I just popped a JAN GE 5751 in V1 of my Mesa LSS 4x10 and don't get to really try it out till tomorrow as my board and guitars are at the rehearsal studio but I was curious what your experiences were like when using the 5751 in your amp and how it changed the amp tone wise and headroom wise

I always throw a pic in my threads so heres a shaky pic of my Mesa.... love this tank despite its weight and awkwardness

The headroom will be the same.
The pot will sweep to a higher number before distortion sets in, but the amp will be at The Same Volume Level.
Tone.....that is up to you.:)
best
is that a 4x10.?

Re: Tonal Characteristics of 5751 in V1

Damn so it does not actually improve headroom just makes my amp quieter...

I'll try it tomorrow once I get my stuff here and post how it sounds different than the 12ax7 that was in there.. And yeah that is a 4x10, I love 4x10 combos the most out of all the speaker configurations

To me, those are so transparent that can sound sterile in some amps, in V1.
But, I usually love them in the PI position. They work awesomely as PI tubes.

really? I can try it in v1 today and try it in PI aswell since I drive my amp to power tube breakup most of the time anyways

Ok I tried it in the V1 position... not a huge difference really but I did notice the amp was quieter and the bass was a bit tighter and clear with fuzz

The 51 is not all that far off (gain wise) from an AX7.
Try an AY7 in V1...see if that helps your cause at all.
If you have an AX7 in the PI...try an AT7 and see what you think.
No promises...just stuff to try.
best

The AT7 makes a great PI.

The AY7 in P1 should soften it considerably. A bit more headroom if you want to look at it that way.
