Tone chart: how does duncan come up with the EQ?

I was wondering something. I want to make a 'prediction' on how a hybrid might sound, so I figured why not take the 59/custom hybrid as a reference point cause after all, the 59/c is a custom 5 and a 59 hybrid (doh!), and all three pickups have an EQ with b/m/t in numbers.

for the 59: 6/3/8
for the C5: 6/3/8
For the 59/c: 6/8/8

I see the bass and treble being the same (added up and then perhaps devided by two?) but where did that mid = 8 come from? The custom (SH5) has for mids 6, so taking this idea would give the hybrid mids=4. not mids=8.

or am I taking this all too pseudo scientific?

I know that, thats why I wonder where those numbers come from.

I think they all just sit around, listen to the pickups, and each put down what they think the bass/mid/treble are, and then they average them out. It seems like I remember Evan saying something to that affect years ago.
