Tone controls acting like volumes! Need Help!

Hello to all. I have installed CTS 250k linear taper potentiometers stated for tone control only, yet after installation, they operate like volume controls. I'm using a .22 cap jumped across both. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Obviously wired incorrectly. Give us a diagram of how you wired them and we can help you. Also tell us about your guitar...H-H type?, 2 vol, 2 tone? You sure that cap is a .22, not a .022?

silly question:

now that your tone pots act like volume pots, do your volume pots act like tone pots?

Just thinking something through.

I just asked a similar question here. It seems that the simple answer is that your capacitor is being bypassed somehow, either due to a short around it, or because the cap itself has simply stopped working. I'd check the cap's condition first of all, and look for incorrect wiring or poor solder joints.

I'll try switching caps and see what happends.

leg of cap touching grounded tone pot body

you do have your tone pots grounded right?

Ran into this very same problem tonight when I was rewiring a single volume single tone. I had copper shielded the cavity and when I tightened up the tone control, it grounded out and made the tone a volume ( I just turned the pot a bit, re-tightened, and tone control again)
Just thought I'd pass on that possibility too.
