Tone Emporium Pickups.. Anyone heard of em?

I just ordered a set of TE-20 59 PAFs from them.
He's apparently some new boutique winder from Canada.
The YouTube video for what it's worth was quite nice..

I am unhappy with my JB and 59 in my Les Paul.. This is a cheap fix until I decide if I want a custom set or not..
They will be going in my Les Paul Studio..

I have met the owner on several occasions and have tried a handful of models.

My friend absolutely loves them, he has some of his humbuckers in at least 2 of his guitars. They are nice pickups, but did not do it for me when I dumped one in my Charvel.

However, I demo'd some of his single coils and really liked those.

I have also used a P-bass pickup. It was nice as well, not what I needed in that bass, but it does still reside in my backup.

I realize that's not super helpful, but some insight nonetheless. I can attest the build quality on the ones I have handled were very good. However, and do not quote me on this, but I don't believe he winds them himself. Also, he is a very nice guy, handled questions well, and I've gotten a handful of orange drop caps from him too!

i know they are relatively inexpensive but havent heard them in person

I figured I'd give them a shot while I decided what I want next.. I feel better dropping $100 on something I may or may not like rather than $300 plus..

Yes, the seller is based in Canada, but the pickups are produced overseas (I have asked in the past)

The TE-12b humbucker (9K, 42AWG, A5) looks like it might be a great hot PAF type. I thought several times about trying it, but the few reviews I could find online were mediocre, so I never gave it a go...

Re: Tone Emporium Pickups.. Anyone heard of em?

I'm not expecting a set of handwound boutique pickups. I realize what I am getting for $99 for a set. I expect them to be ching ching at that price. I'm just burnt out on 59s and JBs and want to try something different.
I almost bought some Tonerider Rocksongs but wanted to give these a go. If they suck I'll be the first to let everyone know. I'm going in optimistic though. I'm into these foreign Alnico 4 and Alnico 2 PAFs that are coming out. They seem to be decent for the money. I'm far from a rockstar or a great player. I'm just wanting a set of PAFs that sound good and I can jam AC/DC riffs and play the blues in..

Re: Tone Emporium Pickups.. Anyone heard of em?

I just got a set of the TE-20s yesterday. Haven't had a chance to put them in the guitar yet though. I have another guitar that has a set of RH Factor Alnico IV PAFs and they sound terrific. RH Factors are very similar in description to the Tone Emporium pickups (probably made at the same factory in China) and sold by a guy on the Reranch forum. They get great reviews from the builders there. Once I get the TE-20s installed, I'l be able to compare them to the RH Factors as well as another guitar I have that has a S-D SH1/JB-4 combo in it. All 3 guitars are LP-style with a mahogany body, so it's a pretty fair comparison.

BTW, for those who are interested in the Tone Emporium pickups, they're cheaper on their website (http://www.toneemporium.com/). A 10% off coupon and the exchange rate with Canada knocks the price down to around $65 shipped.

Thanks for the information. I was honestly going to buy some Sheptones instead, these won out because they are potted I have to have potted with the EVH.. It's noisy as hell..
