Tone pot HUM after a series/parallel with DPDT.

I installed a '59 in the neck (1 pickup Ibanez Artcore semi-hollow that has a HB in the neck only and a vol/tone {Pat Metheny model} ) and made the volume a DPDT (push-pull pot). That allows parallel if the shaft is pulled and it works OK. The parallel sound is definitely weaker than the series sound. It's a similar result to what you get in a Tele 4-way switch.
The problem I have is likely related to grounding... here it is:

With the knobs off as I checked it all out, the tone knob hums a lot when touched. The volume pot no so much. The general light hum when not touching anything quiets if you touch the jack, the bridge or strings. Although there is a factory installed black wire from the metal end pin/bridge area that is to be soldered to the volume pot case, I am wondering if the tone pot also has to be grounded the same way.

I used the SD diagram below at this site for the connections.

As a side note, I find the SD '59 does not have near the output of the Ibanez Super 58 pickup that came stock. I assume that is because the '59 is a vintage sound pickup and has a modest output. At this point, the '59 does not sound as sweet in the mids and treble as the Super 58. The bass of the '59 seems firmer and I like that part. Am I using the wrong pickup in the neck of a semi-hollow jazz guitar if I am looking for 'sweet' tone with a lot of 'bloom' and a firm bass?

For any help on either topic, I am much obliged. This forum is well put together and useful!

I feel like the Lone Ranger... maybe it's my deodorant!

Regardless, I found the problem was that I had to add a wire to ground between the tone pot case and the case of the volume pot, which is already grounded to the bridge with a wire. Problem solved.
