what difference in sound between a 250 and 500 tone pot.have a double fat strat pickguard with 1 volume and tone, 3 way switch, both volume and tone pots are 250, .022 cap ithink(203m yy)putting in a set of duncan distortions, changing the volume pot to 500, should i also change tone pot to 500, or eliminate it al together, i usually leave tone pots wide open. is there a difference in sound of tone pots if they are wide open?
thanks

Re: tone pot question

I used to tell people that a 250k tone pot was like a 500k tone pot that was preset on "5", but thats not exactly correct. Since almost everyone uses audio-taper pots, a 250k pot is more like a 500k pot thats preset on 7 or 8.

So, the difference in a tone pot won't be all that great. A 500k tone pot will just allow you to turn up the treble - a bit higher.

Re: tone pot question

"Pot Values to the nth degree"... I wonder how that would look as a Google search result, and what the government would do with that info :laugh2:

:D Its definitely not the kind of statement I'd want to make on the computer at work. ;)
