What kind of pickups can get that eric clapton blues/buddy guy tone going on?

id say the surfers would be more along those lines. eric and buddy both had a brighter alnico V strat tone

They both use Fender Lace Sensor Golds, but they both also use an active mid-boost.

Thanks for the input now for the amp, im thinking a fender bassman reissue or a used victoria combo. Let me know what you think.

Go for the SSL-1 or Surfer. They're similar and both are superb early 60's style Strat pickups. If you can swing the extra coin, the Surfers have a little more mojo than the SSL-1...but I love the SSL-1 too! Lew

if you got a nice strat with surfers and a bassman youd be in my blues heaven.
if you can find a good deal on a victoria they are great copys of old fender amps.

both clapton and buddy guy used to use lace sensors and active mid boosts. clapton now uses the new vintage noiseless pups, not sure what buddy uses. ill let ya know next week, im doing a festival that he is headlining and im gonna make sure and catch his act

That sounds great! Just a little curious though about where festival is because I might go and see him at a blues festival in Kettering, Ohio next weekend.
