Tone too treble

I have a single coil guitar but it sounds too treble and brittle. Instead of changing pickups, I'd like to know if there are ways to tame the excessive treble and warm up the tone by replacing the volume/tone pots. Do you have suggestions about the resistance and capacity values?

In any guitar, the softening effect of a long cable can be roughly emulated by a low value capacitor between main hot point and ground. Start with 1n and try lower or higher capacitive values to "tune" the tone as desired.

A low value cap costs a few cents.

Of course, if your guitar is a Strat with regular wiring and if the bridge pickup is the main culprit, another solution would be to connect a tone pot (not a no load one) to the bridge pickup and to use it but the effect wouldn't be exactly the same.

You probably know that 250k is the usual value for pots with single coils. With 100k controls, the sound would lack of power. Tone cap value is a matter of taste: try anything from 2,2n to 100n... but keep in mind that a tone pot really softens the tone only when lowered. :-))

Do what you want and be happy.
