Tone woods/exotic woods

I have a basic idea about which woods complement which tones, but what about exotic woods? And which woods should one stay away from because of muddy qualities. What's your favorite wood?

Re: Tone woods/exotic woods

one thing to consider with some exotic woods is that they are endangered. also look into recycled woods (like old heaboards and mantles) as well as non-traditional tone woods.

Re: Tone woods/exotic woods

recycled woods can come up real nice...

I'd like to try kwilla.. but apart from that I got no exp with exotic woods....
some desciptions here

Re: Tone woods/exotic woods

well, it's a very general question, but you might start on Warmoth's site - they have descriptions for the woods they use

Re: Tone woods/exotic woods

Taylor and Santa Cruz sites also list the different tone woods that they use (more for acoustic) but it will give you a general understanding of tonewoods.
